How much would you expect to be paid or pay (if your a yard owner yourself) for someone to muck out/bed down, rug change and do the feeds for 5 horses on full livery?

To cut a long story short the big ginger one I took on loan now can't be ridden...I kinda knew this would happen, had to get the vet out to treat his sarcoids (which should of been sorted last summer before I took him on loan) and of course I'm just bringing Mr M back into work after his 9 months holiday (which leads me to my next post) so I don't have anything to ride at the moment, plenty to do, just can't enjoy my hacks out, mid week schooling and the odd competition anymore...yeah sickening!

So YO too great pleasure

in saying seen as you haven’t got anything to ride anymore I'll pay you to muck out for me, at the moment I did try to boot him and did warn him that I had a pitch folk in my hand and was about to stick it where the sun doesn’t shine

but then I thought....hmmm

I'm down there anyway why not earn a bit of cash, after all a few weekends will buy a new horse rug, new jods....*thinks of all the thinks I could treat myself to*

So if I say ''oh go on then'', how much roughly? I know it won’t be much but its better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

have just looked after our YO horse, we fed, changed rug , turned out, (morning only) mucked out, his partner did the evening and he gave us £7.00 a day

I must have been cheap then because I got £25 a day for doing up to 7 horses on livery, including, turn out, bring in, rug change, muck out and bed down, doing nets, water and some feeds. Plus I had my own horses to do so it was a full day thing. When some horses moved on or went to DIY it then became 4 on livery plus an occasional other one to do on odd days, as well as feeds in, nets, water, turn out, rug change on 2 horses for £15 a day. Oh and I was brushing yard, outside stables and doing other bits of cleaning for that as well.
If you can get £8 per horse consider yourself lucky.

Thanks guys for your replies.

Yes I'd also have my own two to do as well but I do them anyway as there on DIY, I was thinking around £25.00 otherwise I don't think I could be bothered with it all otherwise.

I think I'll just name my price, if he doesnt like it then it doesnt matter, nobody will be offended he'll still have his work cut out lol

I was going to suggest £6 per horse per day. That would seem fair enough. No point you taking on the responsibility unless it's going to be worth it financially. Why don't you ask him? He might be joking about and suggest pea-nuts, on the other hand...... Well, you can always hope

If I was going to do everything for one horse, daily rate would be £10. Times that by how ever many you do and hey ho, in the money. I would like to point out it limits your time with your own and you will feel like a slave! I sometimes hate doing other peoples horses, if its raining you have to do the work and then you just want to go home instead of riding or grooming you own. I also have to do things at certain times as they want X in at that time and Y out then. Its ok if you just do a set job and then your free.

Yes I can see where your coming from, its not something I would want to do every weekend trust me, just the YO is rushed off his feet at the best of times (farmer and a new dad) so odd weekends I think would suit us both.

I pay £5 per day per horse (3 horses) for turnout / bring in / muck out / rugs if necessary. No grooming / exercising & i provide all food & equipment.

when i was asked by my previous yard owner to do her horses while she was on hoilday, she flipped at me asking £100/wk to do two horses that were in (so needed t/o b/i rug changes, feeding, hayin, watering, mucking out) one of who is an evil creature! & her two ponies in the field to feed, hay, water & rug change if needed.
