Just playing with the idea of selling my mare as I dont think i'll have the time or money for her whilst I do my final year at uni in September.

Dont have a clue how much I should be asking for her though, obviously I know due to the economy at the moment I can expect it to be a fairly small amount.

She's a 16.2hh Skewbald Irish Sports Mare. She is well bred - By Crossdrum Spurs out of an Irish Draught Mare with good breeding.

She's 5 years old, fairly established flatwork although still needs a bit of work. Lovely ride, very trainable although can be a bit stubborn and have a bit of attitude. Super jump, have only done up to about 3"6 on her but she clears it easily and has plenty of scope to go further. Very sane, safe & sensible. Sort of horse that doesnt blink an eyelid at being asked to work in pouring rain & gale force winds.

Excellent to hack & on the roads, 100% to box/clip/catch/ trim (hasnt been shod yet). Easy to handle and a pleasure to be around, although is dominant towards other horses and possesive over feed.

Has been out to a few local places to do some dressage & the odd clear round but nothing more, although hoping to get her out and doing more in the spring.

Think that's everything....And also when would be the best time to put her on the market?

Thanks very much.

um 2.5-4k... are u planning on selling now or in september coz if you could keep and compete over summer you could get a lot more....

She looks lovely.

Because of her colouring, I think you could get £4.5k for her easily. If you competed her this summer and had some success, you could ask more. Have a think about showing her in some coloured classes too.

I agree with diggerbez, if you can do a bit more with her and sell he in the autumn your get a better price.
If you want to sell her at the moment i'd guess 3.5- 4.5.
She's very pretty, i'm sure you could do well with her showing in coloured classes.

Sorry, but I would disagree with that. Autumn is always a poor time to sell horses as the market is flooded with horses from those going off to uni, plus winter is in sight.

Also, the OP would have to invest for many more months keep, and many more hours of care, so she's not really going to be much better off.

BG, if anything then I think Spring is generally the best time - although with the market at the moment, there may be no such thing...

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I was actually thinking she'd be worth less as she hasnt done much, but I guess she is fairly pretty

I think Spring or early Summer may be best timing, gives me a chance to get her out to a few things but still hitting the peak time for selling.

Pups if I cant sell her for a reasonable amount I'll be looking for a loan home so be careful what you wish for!
