Had fairly early times for the BE90 at Kelsall today- supposed to be at a party tonight, but having got up at 4am i am really doubting that i am going to make the party- so might as well have just had normal times in the end

Weather was lovely but ground was quite holding. not suprising given the amount of rain there has been in the last week- from what i could gather they were having huge problems building a SJ course because there were so many boggy bits (for those of you who don't know kelsall, its very hilly so they are limited to what flat areas there are)- as it was the SJ warm up wasn't the best, but they did the best they could :)

Dressage. given that my horse seems to have been possessed by the devil recently i haven't done/ been able to do much schooling with him for about 4 weeks. he's turned work avoidance into an art form  so really wasn't expecting much in the DR- he's gone all stiff and resistant on me, have a DR lesson on weds tho so hopefully will get it sorted out. annoying as he is easily capable of a sub 30 test. anyway, in the end we got a generous 37.5 I'm really sorry if you had to witness it, was probably the worst test i've done on this horse!

SJ- as usual was completely crapping myself. i need to learn to trust him as he hardly ever stops anymore, but lack of practice in a comp environment is having an effect i think (guess what i'm doing over the winter? ) He tapped a few out in the collecting ring (very unlike him)- but i think he didn't overly like the ground/ side of the hill he was having to work off! As usual i rode like an idiot in the ring but he was very genuine and (despite being a bit 'looky') jumped everything and got his legs out of the way for a clear (hairiest moment was when i didn't ride in the middle of the double and got 2 strides instead of one :o )
I have to say it was one of the most 'up to height' intro SJing courses i've ever seen... not that it was mahoosive, but it was bigger and squarer than i seem to remember them being ;) :o

XC- had been looking forward to this bit as Capt Mark Phillips is now the designer. haven't seen the course for a while but have jumped there loads on other horses, so was looking forwards to a totally new course- but disappointed really that it was very 'the same'. It was a very nice course, always has been there, but nothing really different, just a few jumps moved around. I do hope he didn't cost the organisers £££s! :o (or possibly the PN and Nov courses have been changed??)
Warming up, had a slight panic that i really couldn't stop in the collecting ring but figured at least he's now got the idea that he needs to go forwards?! Well, on the course he was AWESOME! he took everything on, really attacked it- the only thing he backed off was the water and thats fine as he's never really liked water but he is getting better with it :)
i was a bit worried about the log thing and then a curved turn to the corner- he;s only ever jumped one corner at Llanymynech and he climbed over that one- but he jumped it really nicely! also thought he did the slightly offset double near the end great. i'd walked the distance as a long two, short three, so really kicked on to it and he was very straight through on the two strides. am feeling much more confident about the XC phase on him now, and i think we are starting to trust each other....just wish the same would happen in the SJ!
Was also really pleased to get no time pens- at least i know he's going at about the right speed!
Decided not to wait for PG as there were quite a few with better DR than me- but just as i got home a friend called and said i was 8th!! :D she was going to collect my rosette for me and post it on, sad i realise as its only a rosette but when you are as rubbish as me you don't get many at BE :p;) So all in all, for a complete muppet and green 5 year old, a good day's work!
Crumpets and cupcakes (and a splash of rum and coke) for reading :D

congratulations

You did much better than me, I manged to get eliminated on the sj when clear also by jumping the wrong last fence ( fence no 1 again)

When I was walking the cc the first 3 horses went, all faulted at different places, you are right though the course was not really different to previous years but always causes problems. I would be very pleased with an 8th rosette so really well done and the confidence sj will soon come :)

Absolutely fantastic! SO so pleased for you as i know how hard you've worked to get him to this stage - you deserve a rossie for your efforts!!!!

Pictures please?!?!?!

Ta Mabel
ta AR :D
my lovely OH took a couple of stills on my phone but i can't get them on here because i'm locked out of photobucket...but will post pro links when they are on...that good enough? :p:D

OMG that was you???? i heard them say it over the tannoy and said to my OH..."oh i feel so sorry for that person" (after my Sat Nav error at Llanymynech  )- would they not let you go XC?

Did the XC cause lots of probs then? i thought it rode really nicely if being a bit big and 'in your face'

oooh brill, well done :)

whats the little toad doing schooling at home then?!

just being horrid  he's doing monster spooks at things but totally out of the blue (so he'll be trotting round nicely) and then he'll end up in another post code and i'll fall off  so have reverted to riding in my jumping saddle (much more secure :p) but he's still being gross. he actually got to a point of rearing up and refusing to go to the right. SJ trainer told me to put him in a pair of draw reins and kick him with a spur, hard! amazingly it seems to have worked- after a few sessions of this he's been much better- but now has gone all stiff and horrid and just not bending at all.... hoping my lovely DR trainer will fix it on weds. only prob is i go to her for lessons and he's a good boy when he's not at home

it was unfortunatly!

They did let me go cc where I did a lovely clear horse was a star.

I don't think the cc caused that many problems it must have just been coincidence the first 3 horses faulted, results show about 5-6 in each section with a stop.

The cross country did ride nicely and it flows really well, they always have a lovely habit though of totally utalising the terrane in the positioning of their fences which are always up to height. Water was softer than usual though.

Well done you and trusty steed (the dressage will come right again for sure). A rosette is just reward for hard work - and I gather 5 yr olds are exactly that :D

yes they definitely are! (and this is coming from someone who works with teenagers of the human variety on a daily basis )

Brilliant :) a huge well done you have worked so hard you deserve it.

Just think what you can achieve when the monkey starts to play ball in the dressage;)

Well done!
Kelsall is a lovely venue :) I did the April one as our first event. It was very up to height but not tricky or technical. I did hear grumblings about the April one being too tough so maybe it was softened a little because of this?
Very competitive there too so a rosette is a real result. :D

thank you GB- i've just been reminded that he had jumped a 'corner' before- that bloody fence at that clinic we went on where i got piled into the floor for a second time  no wonder i don't like the bloody things

thanks DHB- from what my friend was saying it was pretty similar to the april event. i think its always up to height there (or was when i was doing PNs with my grey) which i think frightens people if they've only ever seen quite soft courses- but its always ridden really nicely so its never really scared me!

I think the second one often runs the opposite way round. In the spring one you came down to the hill to the water and turned handed if I remember correctly.

I witnessed your dressage! :D I was writing for arena B (mum was writing for you) and I tried to look over when I could. There were some lovely bits in it and was nowhere near as bad as some we saw! :s Saw the final result later and thought you would be very pleased, well done indeed!
Re: the course, I thought it was straight forward and rather simple compared to what it used to be and that is for all the courses. However it is well built and always rides well. I think the Novice only had 3 combinations in it (correct me if im wrong) which is very unusual to see nowadays. Seeing as all the jumps used are those which have been there in previous years I hope they aren't forking out £££s!

Big well done from me too! You could be my inspiration as it sounds like he keeps you on yours toes!

You may remember replying to my post regarding my 'unruly' youngster that we are curently breaking. I recall you saying that yours had been through the same phase. Well, all I can say is that if mine were to be placed 8th in a BE90 as a 5yo I would be well happy! It would make all those bruises worth while!
