A lavendar. bergamot and frankincense scented Swallowfield BD report....

Interesting about the different oils - did you just let him sniff them or put them on pulse points or something? did you have to dilute it in a carrier oil? I'm most intrigued!

Have just given the bergamot some thought. I'm the most chilled out person I know - except for when I first get up on a morning until I've had a cup of Earl Grey (flavoured with bergamot). Think you could be on to something there!

I love the smell of Earl Grey - maybe I should take after you and start drinking it every day so I become more chilled out!

Oils can work, which is possibly why lavender (don't know about the others) is on the list of banned substances for some affiliated disciplines, just in case anybody else is thinking of trying it

yes, having been alerted to this last night, im on the case about the uptake/absorption rate of inhaling V via the skin.

ordinarily you would have to use a hell of a lot of lavendar to get a positive test, like eating bushes of the stuff or washing with very concentrated oil, but obv these oils are a very pure form.

am on the case.

in any event, you can use the bergamot and frankincense without the lavendar.

diluted them in grapeseed oil.

SpottedCat, I know it is/was on an eventing list because I checked last year, I make my own fly spray and checked all the potential ingredients..when I have a bit of time later on I will research it again

Fantastic results, well done! Where will you be taking him for the 6yo classses, i'm guessing you wont come down as far as I am but you never know... :-D

Wow, I'm really impressed how on earth have you got an ex racer doing dressage like that by 5? it must be going hard going against all his former instincts.

vodkagirly-i wont lie.....he's been dead easy! i mean he is very very sharp when i first get on at shows, but as long as i stick on, the training/riding part is/has been very straightforward. its like he was born to do it-he find collection easy (offered some super passage when i over collected after a medium trot on sunday!!!) and is very light on his feet and thus easy for the lateral work and changes. he's a fantastic ladies horse, really light and not at all hard work, bless him :)

oh, and he hates galloping!!

HH-surface MUCH better than last time i went (5 days after they laid it).rides lovely now and the new office is smart.

KPM-am aiming to get out to the earliest 6yo classes, so wherever they are.is there a list of 2011 qual anywhere yet???

if anyone can find a definative answere ref lavender, that would be great.....im struggling to find a black or white yes/no....although my basic maths leads me to believe that there wouldnt be enough absorbed to give a positive result........

Sadly I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. The guidelines are that any herbal type of product, even if not listed, designed to act as a calmer, should be considered to be prohibited.

If I recall I decided that the smell of lavender was so distinctive that it was safer to leave it out of the mix for the fly spray I was mixing so as not to cause embarrassment for anybody competing.
