Hi im liz, Im new on hear. My dad breeds driving horses.

I purchased a sports horse called maverick from Ireland. He is half cob quater id and quater thoroughbred. I bought him when he was 6 months and have had him grazing out for the last 3 years. In May i had him sent away to be broken in and recently got him back last week.

Whilst he was away the kind lady that was breaking him for me had the vet come and check him out.
The vet said he has a trapped nerve in his shoulder so when turning him in large circles he is bucking.

I have spoken to my vet and he is coming to look at him in a week or so BUT my vet told me to say a horse has a trapped nerve in his neck is pretty vague. Im just wondering if it can be treated and what sort of schooling to do with him as not to cause him pain. I have rode him lightly twice and he was a star we only did mounting and dimounting and some light school work.

Wondering if anyone else has hd this problem or could offer some advice???

Thanks

I have heard of a shoulder condition called 'sweeny' which can cause muscle wasting due to a trapped nerve.

Its a good idea to have your vet look at your horse, physiotherapy can be helpful and may be worth considering.

I hope everything works out ok.
