dont think im really dumb but

i make my horses food the night before and i went up today and the water had frozen obvously in her food which i do because i dont have time to let it soak before work the mix was like a slush puppy if i fed it to her would it cause any problems to her its mixed with a good scoop of chaff?

You clearly care for and worry for your horse, that makes you a good person in my book. I dont think your horse will come to any harm. But remember that in summer when it is hot, feeds prepared the day before can have fermented and gone "off" quite quickly.

I wouldn't feed my horse ice.. If you missed it up with hot water will it soak quicker?

I seem to have missed what the problem is... if you feed her chaff can you not just mix water in just before feeding?

I don;t know if it would cause problems or not, I feed my horses soaked feed, which has to be soaked overnight before it canbe fed, or left from morning to night for the night feed, so in the bad weather had problems with frozen food.

I put the kettle on and poured over the top, that defrosted it, then in future, I got some old card board boxes and feed sacks, and put the buckets on a layer of card, and wrapped well in feed sacks, this helped stop them freezing.

The chances are your horse will have no ill effects whatsoever, however it's not ideal and it could potentially cause her to colic if she has a sensitive gut.

We have stopped feeding 'wet' breakfasts (ie sugar beets, fast fibre which is a soaked mash) until the weather warms up, as our yard of 25 horses all have their breakfasts made up the previous evening.

However if you've only got the one horse to feed, take a flask full of boiling water up with you every morning, an in the event your breakfast has frozen, just pour your hot water in to melt it all.

thankyou for you help i just wanted to double check i didnt think it was so cold then was a bit stuck this morning i am going to take water up in the morning
