Well we have had a run of dry weather here in West Wales it's been a bit grey at times but NO heavy rain and even a little weak sunshine
I added a run of grass mats to the front of the pole barn and it is great really easy to push a barrow for mucking out ( it was getting a skim of slipperyness) which that has sorted.
The fields looks really good the summer one has been harrowed and is ready for next spring and I am grazing the winter field in sections moving the fence to add a new bit every 4 or so days and it looks really good I am hopeful I can open the whole field up around Christmas time though the grass iis still growing here so will just wait and see.
Horses are happy and mooching about but are shut onto the corral and pole barn overnight with haylege to limit the amount of grass they get and they seem really happy not to be getting wet.
I've just got back from a week away( cruise around Spain and Portugal)so lovely to wear tee shirts and shorts and NO wellies!! That part of Spain wasn't affected by the dreadful rain and flooding that the south got.
I just hope this nice quiet (and dry) weather continues for a while as I think all horsey folk were starting to get really dragged down by the run of rain and bad weather we got in 2024.
Hope you are all coping and even doing well here's hoping the end of 2024 and 2025 see more settled and gentler weather.

Well it has been so grey here for so many days that the solar powered lights and fence battery ran out of power. However the grass has been growing ( and I've found a flowering ragwort plant this morning!) and the horses are still grazing the summer field.

My horses are in the winter field apart from when they come in for a snack for supplements and exercise .
Clipped and one in a zero and one in a 50 .
They are living off the land ( a bit too well ) there’s minimal mud and life is very easy .

We had a deluge all through October which meant they were back in at night and on the winter field a month early. November has been dry so far but I still have swamp patches in the summer field!

We’ve had a whole week of pretty good weather that the horses are still out at night. The fields are drying and even we have grass growth which never happens this time of year. We are off the north of Scotland so it’s very unusual for us but it’s been great. I’m sure a day of showers and things will be as wet as ever 😂

Dry here too. Very misty and murky, but not a whisper of a breeze which is very strange on our windy hill! Loving it!

Set to stay mostly dry next week but turning much colder. Wouldn't mind a frost just to knock the grass back a bit for my 2 natives.

Sunday 20th October was the last rain we had here (am not including the mizzle earlier this week), last glimpse of the sun was on 31st October.
I'm not complaining though as this time last year it was very very very wet!
V glad I have no mud to speak of, B is happily free ranging across about 3 acres at present, annoying the lovely trad mare over the fence next door as she is still dieting.

We’ve had about 1-1.5 weeks of dry weather here now. It’s crazy, this time last year it was none stop rain! Fields are holding up much better, horses are still out however there is a crisp chill in there air in the evenings and the sky is very grey. But no rain!! So I’m very happy

I moved onto winter grazing 3 weeks ago and have been pleasantly surprised at the change in the weather since. I’ve poo picked the last few days without wellies on and socks have stayed dry.

Mine are out 24/7 save for any particularly horrendous days so I’m taking the dry for as long as it stays around. Although the last 48 hours have gone very cold, and it’s a constant grey with no sun breaking through anywhere in sight.

Dry here west ireland for about 10 days, and forecast to continue for week ahead too! 🥳😁
Although it’s very grey and overcast with some random rays of sunshine poking through here and there, but it means i’ve been able to get jobs done without endless rain interrupting the flow of work.

Glad you got to enjoy sunshine on your travels OP….no wellies sounds glorious! 🤣

I’ve been meaning to glance at the long range weather forecast for winter upcoming - initial predictions being drier and colder 6+weeks ago…..now the polar vortex trend should be able to help those experts glean more info for a more accurate forecast, so i’ll update the thread i started back then with any new info i find.
Fingers firmly crossed for a dry winter, even if it means enduring cold!

The only downside to this autumn dry spell is the wild edible mushrooms have been verrrrry sparse! BUT i am not moaning…i promise! 😁

Well it has been so grey here for so many days that the solar powered lights and fence battery ran out of power. However the grass has been growing ( and I've found a flowering ragwort plant this morning!) and the horses are still grazing the summer field.

Our solar is weak too with endless thick overcast cloud.
Light cloud allow some power, but thicker cloud tends to block the panels receiving anything. Offgrid facebook group locally have been moaning about it.

I also saw a tiny ragwort plant flowering its little head off on top of a 14 foot stone wall here! Primary job this week is get the ladder out and retrieve the little bugger! 😂

NE Scotland - grass is still growing and we are having overnights where the temps are still in double figures. This time last year we were 4 weeks in to solid rain, and cursing winter already. Looks like it'll be much and such the same for the whole month. I am slightly concerned we are being gently walked in to a hellish winter....!

My clay fields are holding really well. Legs are staying dry, ponies don't look like hippos, the dogs aren't shaking mud all up the walls in the house. I don't care about the lack of sun as long as it stays dry!
