A little bit of snowy chaos

Ever since I randomly taught the pony to drag a sledge as part of the topbarn challenge a few years ago I’ve been waiting for a decent snowfall to see if he’d pull me. Gave it a go today. Steering whilst holding onto sledge for balance is hard but nobody died (including the sledge!). Longreining from the side whilst someone else got pulled by the pony worked a bit better! Not quite on the level of crazy of some videos I’ve seen on YouTube where they’re doing it in canter but given time & a better setup maybe I can up the crazy a few notches!

Excellent. My old horse did this in Massachusetts. Need to train Hermosa, then do it in the park, when snow and conditions align, because the yard would definitely have a view if we did it on the property.

What a good pony!

We used to do this as kids without any prior training, just hitched up and away we went
He was quite a whizzy pony and we got flung off going round corners but we were young and stupid and unbreakable

How do you rig that up, do you tether the sled to a breast collar?

This possibly shows it better. I do not have a proper driving harness so have cobbled something together from a lunge roller, a spare short girth & several leg straps. A proper harness would likely keep the lines to the sledge a bit higher up away from his back legs & is probably what I’d need if we wanted to go faster so there’s less risk of tangles
