So, I got over myself, and joined BS - did help that I can now do the microchip when his vaccinations are done ;)

We were BS members back in 08 and 09 and were pretty rubbish. I didn't win any money, and the occasional clear that I did jump was usually round a speed class and I was so slow sometimes they forgot about me and sent in the next person to start.

This morning, I questioned my sanity when the alarm went off at 5am (), especially when I heard it raining, and even more so when I realised that the yard had bought him in yesterday and therefore there was no guarantee he had the required number of shoes on!

Got there in plenty of time - was only jumping the clear round and the british novice. Warmed up well, jumped round the clear round clear - major achievement despite diminutive height of fences

Decided he wasn't quite buzzy enough so razzed him up a bit before the BN, which was single phase so good value for money whatever happened! Anyway, we only went and jumped double clear. Yay us!

Pros of jumping mid-week = quiet classes and people have a clue in the warmup. Cons of jumping mid-week = quiet classes therefore not many placings! Didn't think we'd been quite fast enough to get placed, but we scraped in there with the final placing (fourth) and I was extremely pleased to win £15. So I hereby promise not to whinge that I never win any money BSJA again! ;)

Excitement at actually winning cash was swiftly tempered by the requirement to refuel the lorry on the way home, but rosettes are always welcome in this house.

There's a picture here: http://www.onlinepictureproof.com/c...ums/show_jumping/235891/browse/9/?w=625&h=525 - as always sound off before you click on the link as website has annoying music! Jumps look ridiculously small, but am pleased to say I looked at the discovery before I left and also thought that was small, so we'll probably do one more session of clear round/BN then do BN/Discovery for a bit.

If you click backwards and forwards on the pics you'll see some proper shockers of me - apparently I think the jumps are 1.40 not 90cm!:o

Now just hang on there young lady. I distinctly remember telling you to keep jumping on a ticket and leave the money to us normal showjumpers.

Welcome to the money grabbers club :D

PMSL I so nearly didn't register yesterday - how annoyed would I have been today?! :D

It's quite a novel experience this BD/BS lark - they give you rosettes and money, like, all the time, amazing ;)

Well done you! Sinking your duck, or whatever the phrase is. You'll find that a dc in a novice class often nets you money...which is then spent so quickly you wonder if it was ever there at all.

Good luck for the next affiliated jaunt.

I felt like a sinking duck today - wet does not even come close!

There were a lot of DCs today - more DCs than not I'd say - perils of going midweek when all the pros are out I guess?

As an eventer, I can honestly say that winning more than my entry fee for coming 4th is completely amazing. Clearly £15 is a drop in the ocean (or should that be fuel tank?!) so I may just frame these ones to prove I once did it!:p

Oh fab where did you go?
I wouldn't mind taking my horse somewhere mid-week and a place that had a CR as well would be perfect :).

Ha ha ha re forgetting about you!

Very well done, what a great result!

*Trots off to re-read SC's advice on own thread, as said advice clearly works!*

Bodes very well for the first event, you must be pleased.

Thats a great result - and the microchip has almost been paid for already! ;)

I don't envy the rain though, I admit I am a lazy BSer, and probably wouldn't go if it was outdoors, winter and like that

HAHAHA :p :D that did make me chuckle!!

but well done on placing and money!! it does disappear so fast doesn't it...?!?! but lovely stuff - well done :)

i have been to a mid-week BS once before, definitely preferred it, as there were about 20 in the class instead of about 60!!!

Well done! :D What a fab result, he looks lovely to love the pic over the red oxer :) Xx
Thanks!

I seem to be almost a permanent fixture at Summerhouse EC at the moment. If you look on show centre websites not the BSJA ones, they often run clear rounds first but don't put them on BS schedules as not a BS class.

Thanks, I am rather chuffed!

But see I am an eventer, and we think it is normal to get up at 5am, drive for hours, ride in the rain then go home with nothing to show for it. This time I got a rosette and money - it's all good!

Nope, sorry think you need to release a bit more... ;)

Well done on winning some cash and getting a rossie!
Yeah, yeah, I know, we won't win any style points ;). It looks worse on photos than it does on video, which is interesting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeYH...UCGXQYbcTJ33ZSkFVgkHFSlD5GUrnuMUk34fMKT1u5I9w - I have stills from this session which look much like the pro pics from today. I don't do it XC, it's a SJ thing! Suspect part nerves and tension, part the fact I have to really hold and bounce him into every fence (the deeper the better for him), and can't even slacken the contact before a fence or he says no thanks. So to avoid taking his back teeth out I over-compensate.

I do think it's a real issue with stills though, as I bought this to the attention of my trainer last summer having seen some pro pics and been horrified, and she said she hadn't the faintest idea what I was on about as I don't actually look like a monkey up a stick in real life

Well done SC, looking good!

But I'm slightly worried.... where's the skull cap and tweed? You seem to be looking rather comfortable in a black jacket and velvet hat!!

That, I think you'll find, is a navy Pikeur, and those breeches, when not soaking wet, are cream (or if we're being posh, winter white!) Toggis - not white at all (and I do sometimes wear them with tweed and fully intend to argue the toss with any BE jobsworth who tries to tell me they are white, they aren't!).

Let's be honest now - the skull cap is my everyday hat and when arriving at 5am at the yard I forgot to put it in the lorry. The velvet lives in the lorry as I only use it competing. I also only have a brown velvet cover for the crash hat, which goes well with tweed and badly with navy. Navy was essential today as it is machine washable (being a kids one!!) - so survives a good soaking and can be made to look nice again easily - whereas tweed, a proper adults jacket, is dry clean only.

Who am I kidding? Really I just want to buy bling, dead sheep, smoke marlborough lights, swear like a trooper and join the dark side :D ;)

Never mind your attire - I'm loving the shiny bay pony! Ours was doing a grand impression of full bay this evening, not one bit of grey showing.

Great that you signed up and got winnings and a rossie :)

Well done - you had a much better day then me. I took one pole-basher and one who needed the odd circle to remind him not to reach Mach 3 between fences. Unfortunately there are LOADS out midweek up here, and they're all pros. I suppose Yorkshire is the home of show-jumping after all but they needen't all turn out at once :(. I much prefer competing against the wobbly amateurs at weekends ;) :p.

I'm with you over the dress code confusion - I wore tweed, shirt and tie but a SJer hat. Clearly I have no idea which camp I belong in!

Anyway, congrats and here's to many more rosettes and much more money :)

Fantastic result- well done :D See, you will definitely be converting to the dark side soon, this money winning thing is addictive ;) I would love to go to Summerhouse on a Tuesday but my boy is out of Discovery and I am far too chicken to start at 1.05m nowadays- need to come to some Chatter1 training sessions!!! I really wish they would do some nice amateur classes...

Thanks! That shiny-ness is the direct result of Pure Feeds and only allowing his legs to be exposed. I purchased snuggy-hoods this year, and frankly wonder why I did not do it years ago. It is blissful not arguing about whether or not the mud ingrained into the ears/poll/mane should be allowed to remain or not!

he he!! Love it!! :) Well done!

Are you going next week??
Sadly, and most inconveniently, a client wishes to have a meeting next Tuesday. I could probably make it back in time, but I'd be pushing my luck, and as the clients pay for the pony playing, I do have to devote some time to them occasionally!

That is most rude of them! We only had about 16 or so in the BN today, very civilised!

This I wish to see.

And much better too much release than not enough.
Do you think I couldn't cut it as a SJer?! Who am I kidding, you're probably right...one girl got kicked so badly in the warmup the first aider sent her off to hospital.....but she only went to see him after she'd jumped her round. That's proper hardcore that is, wouldn't catch me being that sanguine!

I think we'll all agree there is more than enough release, but it works for us, so I'm not inclined to alter it.
Super way to return to BS, well done!!!
Thanks!

Well I looked at the Discovery today and thought it looked small, so you need some Chatter1 training for sure! Obviously if I had to actually jump it that might be different.... There was a message on the board saying more classes would be added in once the clocks change, which makes sense. Everything today was single phase and they were pretty ruthless about closing the classes if you didn't get in the ring pronto.

well done! i cant imagine eve winning more money than I spent on the day out! SJing is not my forte though so I dont think registering BS would make me richer!

Bummer, we maybe going... it could be entertaining if we do, we are planning on taking a dressage horse lol!

Wobbly amatures how very dare you gamebird! ... I will have you know that this pole bashing amature ... Oh no wait... Yes I am quite easy to beat infact a monkey on a spacehopper would probably have a more stylish round than I managed on Sunday! :P :D

Ah but this is showjumping - no marks for style! (as was very clear yesterday :p). I think your pole-basher will beat mine one day quite soon!
