Went to a show on Sunday and was appauled to yet again find that no one seems to read the rules in the BD rule book regarding the warm up arena.....

Ok, everyone seemed to have grasped the left to left concept, but there were those that continued to walk on the track, even halting to chat to family and friends!!! Then there was the delightful rider who happily cracked their whip against their horse whilst in close proximity to others, which had the undesired effect of making every horse close enough jump out of its skin!

Why oh why cant people understand the rules are there for safety (and they were pinned to the gate leading into the warm up arena!)

This was affiliated as well!

I think the worst bit was the fact that riders insisted on cantering in circles on the inside of the track, forcing anyone that wanted to walk, to the outside track!

Even if it was unaff, it normally states that it is run under BD rules, so it would be rather helpful if people actually bothered to read the rules!

How dreadfully unthoughtfull of her!! what is the world coming to.. next you'll be having people putting umbrellas (sp?) up when it starts raining at a horse show, whatever next!

It is a pian, but kowing the warm up area well, it is difficult to take the inside track when walking becasue of the way people seem to monopolise it with their movements, eg 10/15/20m circles making it impossible to judge where people are going, which just makes it alot easier to fence hug and stay out the way as much as possible !

Howd you get on anyway?

girls!!!

Now you are forgetting the wonder of the large VERY LARGE, red ribbon in the tail!!!!

And if in doubt shove one in the forelock! - it does wonders for personal space

People still dont take notice though

My friend put a red and green ribbon in her horses tail to show it was a novice AND kicked. She still had people bashing into her even after the horse threw its dolly's out of the pram because it was upset with other horses getting so close.

I dont think you are allowed to have a red ribbon in affil dressage - I suppose someone could take it out before going in to do the test.

I have never found anyone takes any notice of them anyway.

haha yes you do.. am i the only person who thinks horses should get used to the sights and sounds of a show!!

Anyway, i'm usually the person who pisses everyone else off.. it's great fun, they all get in a bad mood, and go into the ring still in one, while i'm still happy!

(who said anything about playing fair?)
(and before you all jump on me, i'm also usually sat on something i have no control over, so it's not all my fault haha

Scary things I don't mind as my horse doesn't bat an eyelid (she'd much prefer to have a brolly over her own head than stand in the rain!) but I can't abide people who walk and stand on the outside track! Ok sometimes you have to pass right to right or halt PDQ to avoid collisions, but the (unaff) dressage I went to at the weekend was horrible... there was one person (who I know of and should know better) who insisted on overtaking me at a canter, getting in front of me on the track, and then halting. Plus if she was on the outside track you had no option but to move out of the way as she certainly wouldn't. I just think it's plain rude not to either abide by the rules or to apologise if you get in someone else's way.

hehe, you often hear me cantering across the school shouting sorry at someone before i even hit them because i know i will unless they get out the way!!

But i know what you mean.. the sort of people who piss me off are the ones who have their mind set on where they're going, and wont give-way for anyone/thing..
Be a little flexible people!! (not aimed at anyone, just being general)
These are usually the people doing a circle round their instructor.

TBH i sometimes think affil is worse than unaffil - the few times ive warmed up affil the attitude ive come across in the arean is mind boggling!!

al leat unaffil you can get carted across the warm up, shout appologies and not get glared at!!

my mare gets a bit worried when people try to 'ride off' against us!! shes only little and being ridden down by 17.3 WB gets tiresome!!

at the end of the day it about trying to get your warm-up done while still being curtious to others.

Umbrella's wouldn't worry me!!! LOL!

Actually someone said about aff being worse than unaff, as in unaff you can get carted across the arena, yelling apologies and not get glared at!!!

As for being ridden down by a 17.3 WB,,,,, thats exactly what mine is and we were being ridden down by ponies at one point!!!

Oh well, the woes of the warm up arena! lets hope this weekend's venue lives up to its usual expectations..... as its a lovely place to compete with a HUGE warm up arena!
