My girl is out 24/7 and will be all winter. She loves living out and would prob freak if I tried to stable her! She is in a big field with good grass and only has a m/w rug on just now, we had some snow today she wasn't bothered at all!!

Ours have to come in on the yard for the night the weekend after the clocks change as obviously too dark for people that work to come and retrieve horses in so they are brought in about 4pm or as soon as light starts to go. They are on that routine from end Oct to end April. We have less grazing in the winter so that's another reason why they are in at night. Mine also comes in quite a bit overnight in the summer to keep him off the grass a bit.

My lad has the best of both worlds - out 24/7 but has a stable in his field to access whenever he feels like it. There's always a little bedding and plenty of hay in there if the weather is vile but he is well rugged and spends most of his time out :D

Mine will be out 24/7 this winter but have free access to barns and although have stables, they will only use them when feeding, grooming and waiting to be ridden. Felt like I had won the jackpot when I found grass livery for them this year. No more days and weeks of 24 hour stabling when it rains or snows. No more hyper stressed horses, no more stiff horses, no more endless days trying to constantly exercise/graze in hand.

Mine are out 24/7 they have summer and winter fields, they move in the winter fields when the summer fields start to get muddy. They have access to shelters or very good natural shelter, no rugs for the natives but my 21 year old mare who is skewbald gets a rug mainly to keep her cleanish. But this year will be unclipped and rug less due to having a foal to suckle, she is a tough old bird and never drops weight even in the winter.

Ours are in overnight and have been for the last couple of weeks. Ideally we would like them out 24/7 pretty much all year round but the yard we are at has land which really holds the water and there isn't really enough land for the number of liveries so we have to be super careful with our fields as once they are trashed that's your lot!

Ponies come in at night all year round! They don't want to stay out in the field! They like their creature comforts!

They also don't go out when it rains! Allegedly ponies 'dissolve' in the rain! I find this little known fact strange as they love the power shower to have baths!!!!

Strange but true!

Couldn't vote as I have 4 in and 4 out. The 4 outside will be outside all winter with adlib haylage. TB mare (in foal) is rugged, the rest won't be rugged till after Christmas and the sec. A probably won't be rugged at all.

the 4 inside are 13.2 (fully clipped & in work), faggoty TB who comes to the gate after 10 mins of slightly chilly weather, and mare with a late foal at foot. If it was possible they would all be out! I wish someone would just take the lot of them on loan all winter every winter!! :)

Just depends on the weather! Have a TB and a cob x Dales. TB is rugged and out 24/7 up until now, but on nights when it's cold, wet and windy he'll come in. My cob is unrugged as yet, out 24/7, but will rug her accordingly and in terrible weather she'll come in. Try to leave them out as much as I can. What I can't understand is when times like yesterday late afternoon I drive past fields with TB/WB types in heavy all-day rain, 3/4c, cold wind and no rugs or protection in an exposed field? Am I too soft thinking they should have something on?! Sick of seeing horses with their ribs showing, no grass and wet and miserable! I'll get off my soap box!
