I bought a foal (she was 3 months and 25 days old) at beaulieu road sales september..and i also bought a 6 yr old mare..who had, most likely, weaned a foal this time.
Now, not being a great fan of fillies/mares..i usually by rule, buy colts/geldings.. i'm not sure if what has happened is "OK"?...
But....the mare seems to have taken the filly on as her own...the filly suckles the mare, they sleep in the barn together, the mare shares her feed with the filly...
Problem is...filly was "weaned"...but now i suppose i'll need to "wean" again...
Would you do it now..or, as i'm inclined, leave "nature" to take its course and do it after xmas when the filly wont need a mum?
