If you were going to look at a horse to buy, would you mind if it had been ridden earlier that day. Also, if you were selling a horse, and someone was coming to view it, would you ride it before they came to view. ???
hmm, if it was ridden before I have come down to ride it I would probably ask myself :why? Was it ridden becasue it is normally excitable and the seller tries to tire the horse to hide it?
If I was selling a horse I would not ride it first - the buyer should have a chance to try a horse behaving as it would on his first ride of the day. However, when I was selling my horses I was asked a few times to ride them first in front of the buyers before they got on.
I don't like a horse to be ridden before we view basically because we don't always get the time to ride every day (we don't have a school) so we need to know it wont be like getting on a bronc when we do ride!
I have never ridden a horse before a buyer has come although I have lunged it with the buyer there as he was fresh.

In short no and no.
I have always tried to view first thing so I can see what they're like stabled or being brought in from the field. if it's been ridden beforhand I'd worry it was because it was a loony or something.
If I was selling I'd not ride it beforehand. I'd want the prospective buyer to see the horse how it is as trying to decieve people iMO always ends up biting you on the a**.
that explains why a viewer for my friends horse walked off in a strop today when she realised he had been ridden earlier. It was nothing underhand at all but i can see where she was coming from. said horse hadnt been ridden all week so thought it best to school fo 20 mins before hand

I would definitely be very angry and would not buy the horse - when I check out horses I arrive significantly early to make sure I see everything! If they are there 15-20 minutes prior it does lead to questions. When I show horses I wait at the gate until they arrive.
And I always get the seller to ride it infront of me before I get on.
