We have had a hectic couple of weeks! The event season is over and all the horses have had a bit of a holiday so things were pretty quiet then all of a sudden we have been so busy I don’t know which way to turn!

Firstly I have managed to get a sponsor, my first ever! I have applied for sponsorship in the past but haven’t been successful, so I am pretty excited about this. I know how hard it is being an amateur trying to get help from companies but it seems there is hope and with social media its looking like the amateur rider can be of help to companies. I suppose they may well have more time to give up to social media than really busy top level riders who are probably inundated with sponsors. I think it really important for our sport and I for one am very grateful for these companies who support us. So for anyone out there looking to gain sponsorship, keep at it, make sure you have a good website, a twitter and facebook page is a must and try to be varied and interesting in your content. So for my sponsor I will be blogging for them regularly on their facebook page which is pretty cool, just need to find interesting things to write about (in return I get some pretty nice rugs).

Secondly my instructor, Mia Korenika, who I met from doing a lesson with a pro feature for Your Horse asked me to take part in her demo at Your Horse Live! Naturally I jumped at the chance! I had no idea what to expect I’ve never been before and I was awed at how big it was, then worried when I saw how small our arena was! Thankfully Mia is so imaginative with her exercises and the use of such a small space. I thought Pilgrim might blow a gasket when her went in and saw all the people, but after a few minutes of giraffe impressions he settled down really quickly! So we quickly knuckled down into our exercises (its amazing how quickly an hour goes by!). We started with some warm-up on the flat and over poles, then a little grid exercise, then jumping on a circle. All of this was to improve his balance, impulsion and rideablility before we tackled a course. We then moved on to the course and thankfully Mia’s plan worked, Pilgrims way of going was great and we rode round the course with ease. Chuffed isn’t the word! It was so nice being in such a different atmosphere and being the other side of the fence! We were stabled next to Mary King, just over from Ben Maher and behind Carl and Charlotte, needless to say I was pretty star stuck. But boy what an experience! Not something I will forget in a while and I am really glad that I was able to do it!

My lovely husband managed to get plenty of video and he has clipped the good bits together, so here it is…

What a great opportunity, well done.

I love Kingshead rugs, they've always been cut and made well; I still have a woollen day rug which must be well over 40 years old still going strong. If they're made as well now as they were then they will be fantastic.

We saw you! Well done to you and your stunning boy. I was amazed at how well he coped with what seemed to be a small arena and the large crowd.

Great news about your sponsorship. It is wonderful to hear that companies are supporting being supportive of riders who are not necessarily big names yet.

By the sounds of it, onwards and upwards for 2013!

:D:D:D:D

Really enjoyed that, thanks for posting :) I'll never forget the clip you posted when he was soooo naughty in the ring, and you rode him through it, you've come such a long way! For some reason I thought he was an experienced horse you had bought as a schoolmaster I didn't realise you had produced him yourself - double well done

Thank you! I haven't got mine yet, they should be with me any day, I can't wait to try them on the ponies!

Ah brilliant, he seemed to lap it up! Funny fruit! Yes brilliant news, I am very grateful of their support, I just hope I can help them as much as they help me.

Indeed! I have already started putting my calendar together!!

Thank you! He can still be a bugger but thankfully I am learning how to deal with it! He is still worth all the hard work!

Well done on both fronts - the sponsorship and YHLive .
We were there and saw your lesson, as I am hoping to arrange a lesson with Mia soon so wanted to see what she was like.
But anyway, we thought you and your horse adapted to the small arena really well. I have been trying out a couple of the exercises at home using poles. Anything to jazz up my riding in the field in the morning! Can get boring at this time of the year :D

I saw you too! Thought you did a fab job and absolutely shared your arena claustraphobia, small spaces freak me right out! You did great and I enjoyed the demo a lot. Congrats on your sponsor too!

Wow what an opportunity! You both did great! Well done x

Thank you!

I'm glad you saw it! Thank you! I was really surprised how well he coped but once he realised we were there to do jumping he was happy! Mia is very good at designing exercises! I know what you mean on the boring field front! she holds plenty of clinics around here, I will pm you.

Thank you! I am really glad you enjoyed it, it's really hard to judge when you don't get any immediate feedback. I am glad so many people form here saw it, it was great fun!

Yes please do PM me as I know of at least 4 others who are either currently having lessons with her or are looking to. Also just to make you giggle about the size of the arena my sisters horse does not like small spaces and we could imagine if she had been in there it would have been the 'wall of death' as the horse would have flown around the sides of the arena in a tale spin. Poor love

I have sent you a pm! Oh dear! Could have been exciting though!

How interesting, thank you :)

My pleasure!

Yay! Well done :) Pilgrim looks lovely & your partnership is growing stronger & stronger by the loos of things! Exciting times ahead!

Thank you! I can't wait for next season! And getting out to do some showjumping in the meantime!

Congrats an the sponsorship and the star appearance!

I just wanted to say "well done", I honestly struggled to equate that wonderfully biddable horse in the video with the toad in the SJ video you posted earlier this year. All credit to you for the transformation - he looked to be really enjoying showing off!
