We have had a hectic couple of weeks! The event season is over and all the horses have had a bit of a holiday so things were pretty quiet then all of a sudden we have been so busy I dont know which way to turn!
Firstly I have managed to get a sponsor, my first ever! I have applied for sponsorship in the past but havent been successful, so I am pretty excited about this. I know how hard it is being an amateur trying to get help from companies but it seems there is hope and with social media its looking like the amateur rider can be of help to companies. I suppose they may well have more time to give up to social media than really busy top level riders who are probably inundated with sponsors. I think it really important for our sport and I for one am very grateful for these companies who support us. So for anyone out there looking to gain sponsorship, keep at it, make sure you have a good website, a twitter and facebook page is a must and try to be varied and interesting in your content. So for my sponsor I will be blogging for them regularly on their facebook page which is pretty cool, just need to find interesting things to write about (in return I get some pretty nice rugs).
Secondly my instructor, Mia Korenika, who I met from doing a lesson with a pro feature for Your Horse asked me to take part in her demo at Your Horse Live! Naturally I jumped at the chance! I had no idea what to expect Ive never been before and I was awed at how big it was, then worried when I saw how small our arena was! Thankfully Mia is so imaginative with her exercises and the use of such a small space. I thought Pilgrim might blow a gasket when her went in and saw all the people, but after a few minutes of giraffe impressions he settled down really quickly! So we quickly knuckled down into our exercises (its amazing how quickly an hour goes by!). We started with some warm-up on the flat and over poles, then a little grid exercise, then jumping on a circle. All of this was to improve his balance, impulsion and rideablility before we tackled a course. We then moved on to the course and thankfully Mias plan worked, Pilgrims way of going was great and we rode round the course with ease. Chuffed isnt the word! It was so nice being in such a different atmosphere and being the other side of the fence! We were stabled next to Mary King, just over from Ben Maher and behind Carl and Charlotte, needless to say I was pretty star stuck. But boy what an experience! Not something I will forget in a while and I am really glad that I was able to do it!
My lovely husband managed to get plenty of video and he has clipped the good bits together, so here it is
