Well, thanks to everyone who gave me some tips

Last night she had the odd explosion, but nothing major

My husband came with me for 'moral support', and having someone in the arena with me definitely helped because I knew someone would find me if anything happened

She felt a bit more chilled out last night, and I managed to ride her for the whole 40 minutes on a slightly longer contact.

Tonight, however, was a completely different story!!!

I got on her in the arena (alone again as hubby was working) and she felt pretty relaxed. But, after 10 minutes I could hear the farmer (who is three or four fields away) moving something with his tractor. Grace heard it straight away and coiled up like a spring and could not walk forwards with plunging or bucking. I persevered, but then a car came down the drive (by this point it was pitch black but the arena is flood lit) and I felt her sit right back on her quarters... I am ashamed to say I bailed out

I just jumped off, taking the reins over her head in one fluid movement, and watched her buck and rear away from me

Not to be disheartened, I got straight back on as soon as she stopped and made her really walk on... she had a few moments where she coiled back up but I felt more able to push her on without her exploding again! I was so so tempted to ask her to trot on at one point, because she just coiled right back at me.

On a more positive note... when she was walking on (and I mean really tracking up and pushing behind giving this bouncy walk) she FELT ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!

I know I shouldn't get hopeful, but the power she used to have was there, the bounce was there... come on 19th March!!! Just hurry up!!!

I hate bailing off... it has been a very long time since I have done it

But having seen from the ground what happened, there is no way I would have stayed on

Don't worry about bailing out - it's called self-preservation!! You did well getting back on after she'd shown you exactly what she was capable of!!

I too am willing the 19th March to come round quickly, that is the day I am supposed to be starting to walk again, so maybe with both of us willing it, it will come round that bit quicker

Thanks everyone...

L154xxx - I have followed what the vet has said to the letter, so I know there is nothing else I could have done. This is partly why I have become so stubborn about riding her no matter what she throws at me, so that in my own head I know I have done everything for her!

lfield - Can we will it to come around really quickly. I agree that if both of us do it, it will come that little bit quicker! I hope your healing is as painless as possible

What a waiting game- I prob would have bailed out too but my horse is over 17hh!! What about long lining, I love it cos I burn calories too!!!

Grace is 17.1hh

She is literally allowed to walk and that is it due to the nature of the injury. Long lining would not allow me to have enough control over the speek aspect

As someone who is a professional bailer I personally think you have done an amazing job so far.

Glad to hear she feels so good.

Thanks Worried1... was quite impressed at the agility I showed

I rode her this morning (after having a double dose of calmer in her feed last night), and she was a complete angel!!! There was so much going on, but she never batted an eyelid. I think when there is more going on, more sounds etc. she is not as sensitive whereas at night when it is so very quiet, the slightest noise freaks her out! Does that make sense?
