After coming to the difficult decision to PTS seems my brother is softer than I thought. He spent all day Friday (from his hotel in Romania where he was stuck on the last day of his hols) emailing various contacts/colleagues asking for help with Sammie. By the most amazing fluke a colleague of his who is also a photographer called him to say they might be able to help. They are a couple, one working from home, one works mornings, 2 late teen kids, no small kiddies in the immediate family (we made them very well aware of our concerns about Sam being nervous and small noisy children were a worry as he is simply not used to them) lost their old dog a year or so ago and not wanting a pup but looking for an older dog, the wife has mobility issues and can walk reasonable distances but cant walk fast! My bro has explained all of Sams issues and been completely up front with them, they live a couple of miles from us and socialise with bro and sil so happy to keep in touch and will let us know if things dont work out so we can have the final say in any decisions. Took Sam out for a walk this morning and met up with them all, they drove him home to his new house, we all sat out in the garden whilst Sam explored the house. So far, so good. I know its early days and we may still have to make some difficult choices but they seem a lovely family, house is typical family house, clean but not show homey, they are not obsessive tidy types and Sam will be allowed to sleep on the sofa if he wants to. I so hope this works out for the little chap, I am seeing my bro in a new light tonight, I really didnt know he cared that much about Sam and I was quite tearful earlier. So I thought you'd all like to know that we may have a happy outcome to a horrid week. Im also hoping that within a secure family Sam might learn to relax a bit, he is always fine once he knows you and this is a pretty much adult environment so he has every chance. Some settling in and being a good boy vibes would be appreciated.

Really nice to hear this and I hope all goes well. I was only thinking of this dog today and, although I fully appreciated the reasons for your decision to start with, I did think it seemed sad that a dog aged 10 had to be PTS under the circumstances. I think it's because our family dog is 15 and still pretty full of life so it is always sad to think an animal's life may be cut short due to circumstances outside their control.

I hope this works out for Sammie. It certainly sounds promising so far

That's great news, i did think it was a big ask of you to do that so soon after losing your mum. I'll raise a glass to your brother too later, and your mum and the wee dog, oh heck and to you too. might be a bit tipsy after that lot! xx

How lovely:) I hope the little chap settles and finds some happiness. I am sure you would love a happy outcome for him. Condolences again on the loss of your mum x

I really hope it works out for Sammie and he is happy in his new home, this will make things easier for you as you are still grieving and you were in an unenviable position having him pts.

Thanks everyone. I have to report this morning that your settling in wishes seem to have worked. Text from new owners says that Sam took himself upstairs to bed at 10pm, as he always did at Mums, and slept through until they woke him at 6am for his morning walk. Has eaten his breakfast and is now sleeping in the lounge. I know its early days and too soon to breathe a huge sigh of relief but maybe just a little tiny cheer would be in order.

yipppeeeeeee .... so nice to hear a good outcome for once - can all get a bit doom and gloom on here. hope the little man has a lovely life in his new home (well done your brother !!).

How lovely! You know, I think dogs are more adaptable than we sometimes give them credit for. For them, home is where the love is!

**Cheers**
