Something someone said to me yesterday got me thinking.

My horse was stood by his stable quite relaxed with his willy hanging out and a woman told me to slap it! She said it was my horse exhibiting stallion behaviour and that I had to do it. I didn't slap it obviously as I thought it was complete rubbish.

Can anyone show me a veterinary thread or natural horsemanship which proves this is true!

It also made me feel so sorry for this womans poor husband, hope he never steps out of line!
 
Poor horse (belonging to woman).. My boys let theirs out to pee too.. Why on earth would you want to teach them it's wrong?

I think it's a marvellous help for sheath cleaning etc.. One of my 3yo's has had a nasty pony bite on his sheath in recent weeks.. I am sure I'd not get near it to treat it if I'd been battering it like a piñata or punch bag when it was just innocently dangling there!

Of course, if your horse comes at you on his back legs waving it in your face, then I'd perhaps defend yourself :D
 
I would have slapped her ,lol my boy is always relaxed and hanging out even in the field head down eating.
 
Sounds like a great idea, perfect if you want to get cow kicked ;) honestly it's a load of Bullshiza leave your boy to it.
 
If its hard and he is obviously excited and trying to mount something, yes I would possiy think about it.
If he is happy, chilling and letting it dangle in the breeze, no. Both mine get their bits out, it allows me to give them a clean and a check over without having to violate them with some baby oil and a rubber glove. :)
 
he's just relaxed fgs, what a horrible attitude to a horse! good for you for not doing it!
reminds me of the story of some horrible old bat who ran a yard who would throw buckets at horses who put their heads out over the stable doors, as she said it made the yard look untidy... jeez. why do these people even keep horses if they hate them that much?!?!
 
He's just airing himself ! Some horsey peeps are so damned stupid, but worse than just being stupid, they try to inflict their stupidness onto other owners. :rolleyes:
 
If I saw someone doing that to a poor horse I would seriously think they had gone bonkers, take no notice, the woman is crazy!

My boy is always airing his (much to the amusement of the kids) and its enormous so he is probably rightly proud of it :D
Boys will be boys and no harm unless 'it' starts showing other intentions :eek:
 
I saw a lady at a local showing show slap her ponys willy when he was all relaxed in the ring! She was dubbed the willy wacker by the onlookers!
 
I just worry she'll pass this to to someone who doesn't know better, they'll pass it on and they'll be a lot if horses with slapped willies out there.

I just wonder where sort of daft information comes from?
 
Ooh, imagine how the poor horse would feel if he'd just got it out for a bit and someone slapped it? What's wrong with letting him dangle it out, as long as he's not actually 'doing' anything with it then he's hardly being stallion like! I bet your boy is glad he's with you and not her!
 
Never heard that before- mine does it a few mins before a wee - I think he would think I had gone mad if I slapped it!
 
Mine does it now and again,I'm pleased as it means he's relaxed as we haven't had him long :) also tho sometimes he has moved it up to his belly and back down I don't know why he does that? Lol
