We took both the boys to Golden Cross for BSJA today. OH got up and went to the yard at about 6:30am to grrom them and generally get them ready, while i got the kids ready and set out for the yard around 8:30am. I wanted to leave the yard by 9am to get to GC by 10:15am, but one thing and anbother conspired to mean we didn't leave until 9:30am. no matter, somehow we still managed to arrive by 10:15am...and they were still on the Clear Round, so time to chill and get ourselves together.

Trike was entered for the BN, and I decided to go for it with Bo and entered the 1.15m Open (a South of England Grade C Qualifer as well) and the 1.20m Open. It was going to be a long day as they were classes 1, 5 and 6

This was only the second time we had jumped on grass this year, and in fact for Trike, it was the first. It was also (to the best of my knowledge) the first time Trike had worn studs

The course for the BN was straightforward...in fact it looked tiny after the last track he had jumped....a 1.05m at Towerlands
grin.gif
He warmed up okay, but i was not finding it easy to get a forward stride on him which he needs. We went in for our round, and i was still struggling to ride him forward...it's so difficult to ride Bo and Trike on the same day as they are like chalk and cheese
frown.gif
We were clear to the second last fence, an upright of bright white poles and planks...which ahd caught a few out....and so it caught us too. I checked and checked going into it and there was no surprise when he stopped
frown.gif
Came again and he jumped it second time, and continued to jump the rest of the course clear. the frustration being that this class was won with the only clear round in the first round....if we hadn't had that refusal we would have finished in the top two
frown.gif

So, we waited, and waited....and waited some more...for the Disco, 1.05m open and then the Newcomers.....before the 1.15m started
tongue.gif
Bo had warmed up well, and seemed happy. The course was big enough, but more to the point there were some very tricky distances and lines involed. We came to the first ( a big oxer on the right rein) and Bo gave it some serious air
shocked.gif
This was great.....except for the fact that the second fence was on 3 short strides....and we were got in very deep as a result of the huge jump at number 1. Bo worked his magic though and somehow dug himself out of the mess
grin.gif
The we came to number 3, an upright on 3 short strides to a big oxer. Got an okay shot at the upright, but he just rolled it....very unlike Bo
frown.gif
He then jumped out over the oxer, and onto number 5, a double of uprights. Again, we had an okay shot at the first element, but still rolled a pole going in
frown.gif
The rest of the course he started to settle and we jumped clear for the remainder, but it was frustarting to have 8 faults ina round that felt pretty okay
tongue.gif

The biggest frustartion of the day was that the 1.20m was cancelled as there were only 2 of us interested in jumping it
frown.gif
I'm gutted to be honest as i really thought we could have a good run around that track...but it wasn't to be
frown.gif

On a positive, this was the first 1.15m we'd been into from cold, and he didn't jump badly. I didn't ride it as well as i could have, but we must look forward. Next time out we will jump a 1.10m and 1.15m so hopefully the 1.10m will feel small

Argh.....horses

Thanks for the report - I love reading them! Bloomin hard luck on Trike - how annoying to have a refusal and then only be one clear round! Argggghhh!

Never mind - he is jumping well and thats what matters.

Its not like Bo to have 2 fences down is it, but at least he didnt nap and you are really getting into this now! Straight into a 1.15m is pretty impressive. That was annoying about the 1.20m being cancelled - hard to understand why there was only 2 of you wanting to jump it! Where was everyone?!

Where's the next party at?

As you say - frustrating in some respects.
However good in others. As you say - Bo jumped well in a 1.15 class without a smaller class first. Something to smile about anyway.

Thanks

We have a weekend off next weekend, then over bank holiday weekend we are off to Pyecombe on the saturday for a 1.10m and 1.15m, and then on bank holiday monday we will jump a 1.05m and 1.15m at Bexhill

I read the title to your post and thought 'Oh No'. I then read your post and thought 'Phew'. I was imagining something awful had happened in the 1.20. Sounds like Bo is going from Strength to Strength and this week he didn't even think about napping
smile.gif

Shame about the 1.20 but well done! I know it's frustrating when you wait all that time and just have a couple of silly fences but it was such a good result really.

Do you have a schedule for Pycombe? We will probably be taking ours but just need to know what classes to go for.

Well, from your posts you always sound really confident... 'We did this massive class, then we did that massive class, then we did another massive class...' not 'went to the toilet 15 times & thought I was going to be sick before the jump off & was really worried in case I had a stop / fell off / missed a stride'...

Plus you hang around all day at shows & I simply can't do that cos the more we hang around, the less I feel like doing it!!!

I am getting interested in nerves again cos haven't competed since Aug due to horse's long illness & subsequent death, & now I have a youngster & we're about to get cracking.

LOL!

Well, i can assure you i do get nervous....and i spend a lot of time going to and from the loo as well
tongue.gif

I guess i try and control / conquer my nerves by telling myself that both and i and the horse have done these classes, and bigger, before.........it's just that we haven't done them togther....and in my case i haven't done them for about 20 years
shocked.gif

I do seem to forget about the nerves once i'm in the ring, and particularly once i'm over the first fence. After that i guess adrenaline takes over and we just get on with it
crazy.gif

Good luck with your youngster....i'm sure you'll both be fine together and remember, it's just for fun
