A Long Hard Winter

Ah, great, just like last year for me then. At least I have a roof this year.

Wellies are all ready, got a nice warm coat and even got some pocket warmers lined up

I think I'm prepared

But lets cross fingers its not tooo bad as our field have a nasty habit of getting rather boggy if theres too much rain/wet

Oh no, I'm not ready at all. My wellies have a hole and don't have any rugs heavier than 100gm! Argh, time for shopping methinks.

Although, I have a flask so i can have a cuppa when turning out in the morning

I am going to be shot down in flames for this but i love long cold hard winters! I love cold winter mornings and there is no better feeling than knowing that you have got all the haylage and bedding that you need to get you through the winter. I can never wait to get the horses into their winter routine and getting them clipped!

Was,nt it really wet this time last year i,m sure my fields were half wrecked before november , my fields look better than last spring so hoping when the really bad weather comes horses have had a good start to winter. I dont mind freezing weather you can wrap them up but hate persistant wet weather they always look so miserable.

Yep cold is great, rain is the pits.

I have no qualms about kicking my horse out in the freezing cold with a good rug on. When they are up to their knees in mud it a different story though.

Cold and dry anyday over wet, windy and muggy. Bring on the frosts I say and lets hope we have it cold and dry with sunshine!!

Ditto that. Mild winters are usually wetter than cold ones.

I'll bottle some of ours when it arrives and send it down. On second thoughts it'd be easier to send a tanker

I spend November to April pulling Zippy in and out of the 18" deep puddle that is our winter grazing

Thinking of trading in my wellies for a pair of waders. Fingers crossed for a very cold dry winter

Oh TicTac - me too! That's just how I like it! I love the frost and winter sun.

I do agree that the geese are moving earlier than usual, but don't know how reliable an idicator that is of the winter to come?

Don't mind a very cold winter as long as it is fairly dry. Wrapping up snug and warm on crisp sunny days is a joy. But dealing with relentless rain and mud is another matter... Oh well, whatever winter brings we'll all get through it, just like we do every year.

As long as it's not cold enough to perpetually freeze the outdoor school and the gallops I'll be happy! Nothing better than a clear chilly morning working up the gallops or out hunting - shame it's bound to piss down here ALL winter!

Oh please let it be dry!

Josie is going out for the first time for 5 months tomorrow.

She'll be in again if all our clay fields get boggy. I'm not risking that suspensory for ANYTHING!!!! lol

I know what you mean - I used to live in Ayrshire and I well remember that it was the only place in the UK to stay green in the 1976 drought!!

Same as JoBo: my horses have coats like polar bears this year! George always gets a thick coat but not this thick, and I was perplexed, but tbh I can well believe we are going to have a long cold one, given the recent snap. We're not really into the deepest depths, yet!
