Finally our school has been finished and I am well enough to stand up for more than 5 seconds :D So, Mally's proper education has now begun!

She's been in the school and walked about, shown the sights and sounds, to which her response was a half-hearted canter with a hop and then she tried to get down to roll, got told off, gave up and walked around quietly. Pretty impressive considering it was foggy, getting dark and there was another horse in there (supposedly the older, sensible one) bucking and tanking off. :D

I took her in today with the intention of another wander about and trying to get her to walk out from me, rather than be glued to my side.
After a few minutes of 'eh?', she suddenly went, 'oh, you want me to lunge, why didn't you say so!' and started walking out in lovely calm circles! Both reins, no problem! Trotted when asked, back down to walk when asked and then halted when asked! :D :D

Methinks someone has done this before! Either that or I am an amazing horse trainer and she learns quickly. Given that she still bangs her nose on the wall everytime she has a drink, and I am useless at lunging horses, I think the former is far more likely :D :D :D

And a very blurry picture of my clever pony! :D

I am really starting to worry she is saving a whopper of an explosion for when I get on her for the first time. She's been far too easy up until now!

She sounds like a good little find, and you are taking your time with her which means if she is going to do something you can go back a step and rebuild her confidence! best of luck with the next stage!

Any pictures of your smart new arena?

No pictures of it unfortunately, but it is gorrrrrrrrrgeous! We had a horrible little bog before, flooded everytime it drizzled, froze as soon as minus tempretures were suggested and then went hard and dusty in dry weather. This one is 60X40, so huge, and lovely and bouncy!

Not supposed to lunge on it for a year, but I have special permisson as long as I promise not to stand in one spot. Plus she doesn't do hooning, so she's not charging around in one spot, churning it up!

She is a real little star, this is my first attempt at breaking a horse and I couldn't have asked for a better one to start on. :D

Ahhh bless Mally, looking forward to the reports when she finds her cheeky side! C also being good on the whole and is gradually getting over his fixation with the mares, I like you keep waiting for him to show his cheeky side :)

Nicki, sounds like Mally and C would get on like a house on fire, she is a right tart for the boys! Only just settled down enough to ignore them, although that's probably got more to do with Henry beating her up at every oppurtunity, and a little riding school mare becoming her little shadow! :D
She is a real little character, she gets hold of her lickit if it's empty and bangs it about making a racket as if to say 'oi, why is this empty!', she is forever waving her feet around begging and you can't do anything without her sticking her nose in. :D

Yay new arena! Glad the elements have abated and you can crack on with her education, good luck with it all!

Don't get too worried about the lack of explosions Beau's didn't come till about a year after we had broken him in and is suddenly occured to him that carrying us might = work and he wasn't sure it was his thing

I quite like it if the explosions never show their head TBH :D

The new arena is just lovely, makes me feel all inspired and I'm already thinking of people I can get to come out when she finally gets to a stage of having lessons :D

She has been amazing once again tonight! Lunged in roller and very loose side reins, went forward lovely and quietly on both reins :D
Afterwards I put her saddle on, got OH to hold her and lay over her with my complete weight on her. She didn't give a toss! I even had to jump a bit to get across her and she didn't bat an eyelid :D

I am a very grinny person now :D

The plan is to eventually use the new school for clinics and perhaps even competitions, so if you anywhere near Loughborough, we'll be nice and handy. Just to add to the huge number of places to ride around here!
