I took the youngster for his first BSJA on sunday. Had only planned on doing the clear round as he is very inexperienced and just needs to see lots of fillers to build his confidence.
Really wasn't expecting much from him but he surprised me with 2 very nice clear rounds. The first was a little shaky but the second flowed nicely
On that basis decided to try him in the 80cm open. Fence 1 was fine, fence 2 we had a minor problem. It was an oxer with a big solid full length filler that wasn't in the CR. He kind of ground to a halt in front of it then jumped from standstill
and cleared it
Rest of the course went well, he just got a little deep to fence 7 (oxer) and dropped the front rail so 4 faults. Really pleased with him so decided to leave it there. After putting him back on the trailer i went to have a natter with the judge and watch the rest of the class. Gobsmacked when he told me i was currently in the money as only 1 clear so far and we were fastest 4 faults. We ended up third
so the lad has ££££ on his card from his first BSJA class.
Then came otto.
After schooling beautifully over the warmup fences the day before it all went horribly wrong.
Warmup wasn't too bad, still much better than previously, a little on his toes but no serious rushing. The instant he entered the ring he lit up. Jumped a reasonable round in the BN with just 1 pole down as he rushed a related line of those god awefull thin poles.
90cm Am Qual he figured out he could run through the hackmore so almost the entire course was completed at breakneck speed. Still only 1 pole down (same fence) but not a pleasent experience.
So a great day with the youngster but back to the drawing board with Otto.
