Hi all,

I re-clipped my girl this afternoon, and a little white spot bout the size of a thumb print has appeared under her chin. It definately wasn't there when I clipped her about a month ago and you couldn't see it til I clipped the regrown hair off.

I remember reading about Toytown who had a condition which gave him white spots but this is only one. She did have an infection there about 5 yrs ago from a thorn getting stuck so wondering if that could be to do with it although this mark has never been there before.

Has anyone else come across this?

Have attached a bit of a rubbish pic so you can see.

Thanks!

It's probably a scar left over from the thorn infection. I don't know anything about the disease that Toytown got so it may be worth doing a bit of research if you're worried.

It is likely to be a scar from the thorn.

Arabs and some TBs get spontaneous white spots called 'birdcatcher spots'.

They are most prevalent in old English lines and chestnuts.

My Arab is a chestnut, 98% Crabbet and he gets them most in summer. So much so he could almost be considered coloured or appaloosa:)

My chestnut welsh D has a variety of white/roanish patches which seem to come and go. Last winter I got really paranoid about his saddle fit, as he developed white patches on his back (but in an odd place, under the panels not in the usual place near the withers). However, saddler said fit was fine and they disappeared when he got his summer coat, and haven't reappeared this winter. Odd!

I believe that Toytown has the 'Birdcatcher' spots, and that they are a form of Vitiligo - but I ready to be corrected!!
The Chestnut cob I ride at work has got lots of these spots just this year, we noticed them in the summer and thought they might be reactions to fly bites, but more have appeared as time has gone on, and strangely seem to have moved between clips!
