I know this has been done to death, but I'm so nervous...apologies.

After much umming and aaaahhing, we are entering our first show on saturday, and it's just the local Riding Club one - but still nervous. I know if it was higher up, I'd need to spend money.

I've picked up oddments of clothing along the way, and although I know the correct attire is greeny tweed jacket, canary joddies, navy velvet hat, I'm afraid that all I have is - white joddies, new long boots (half price), a new black showing jacket (half price and very nice), and hubs has just given me a gatehouse black velvet hat (bless him !).

Now I know this is all wrong (YO says it cannot be white jods), but this is all I have. Together with a new black bridle (half price a while ago), and my GFS saddle, black polypad. And of course a black and white pony.

Will we get laughed out of the ring ? Will we be marked down (not that worried as going for fun, but..)...

Any advice gratefully received, and chocolate cake if you even got this far. :)

No idea as I dont do showing as the judges are too anal! lol x as long as you look smart i wouldnt worry, just have fun and enjoy the experience. Of all of it, i'd guess cream/yellow jods would be better but if you dont have it and cant borrow some then wear what you have x

Ive only done 2 working hunter classes when i was younger, whilst i was waiting for my showjumping classes, it was an excuse to jump more!! lol x

Good luck x dont forget an updaye on Monday with pics!! x

This is a riding club show not HOYS, so don't worry too much. Make sure that everything is clean and tidy and ENJOY YOURSELF. That is what is important first of all. If you then think you want to make a regular thing of it that's the time to spend some extra money.

Lots of luck to you and your horse and hope that you both have fun!! BTW pics of you and your horse dripping in rosettes will be required next week!

I know exactly how you feel!

I have NEVER done showing before, always jumping and x- country and on Sunday I'm taking my youngster to her first show in the Riding Horse class.

I'm going to be wearing a navy jacket, black saddle and bridle and black hat cover- which I know is incorrect but I simply cannot afford to buy a whole new wardrobe! I've already brought a new numnah, fancy browband, hair net, plaiting bands which is costing a small fortune ontop of entry fees!

I'm hoping someone else in the class will be wearing some incorrect items also :p

I also have no idea what 'show' i'm going to have to do for the judge- guess i'd better do some research!

Aw,
I guess if you could borrow beige jodhpurs it would be more 'correct' but the main thing is to have fun! I doubt you'll get thrown out of the ring with white ones. My first show I wore my job interview jacket with a safety pin to fasten it higher up, my OHs tie and black half chaps as I didn't have a jacket or boots, or much of a clue really, I was just happy to be there! I think we came last but it was more down to my horses behaviour in the ring!

To be honest they should really be looking at your horse more so make sure they are clean and ride your best...remember to smile and keep an eye out for being called in ;)

First shows are scary but try to have fun and post some pictures
Good luck

Thanks so much.....even had to clean his bits tonight as we had a few sploges on his legs.

Yup the hairnets, the new pimple gloves, all of that is bought. I had no idea all of this was going to be so expensive. I'm having a lesson tomorrow "introduction to showing", which i'm hoping will give me the confidence I need.

Don't worry about your outfit! I'm sure you'll be fine as its a local thing, as long as you are clean and smart.

I've seen someone win an inhand class wearing jeans and a puffa jacket!

And most importantly remember to show us the pics!!

GOOD NEWS !!!

I've turned out my "spare horsey clothing" drawer, and found a rather swish pair of beige joddies, given to me by a friend and never worn - they fit (just)..

HURRAH !! Shy can go to the ball :D:D

I wouldn't worry overly, at my riding club I would say most people aren't wearing strict showing wear and there are alot of black and blue jackets instead of tweed.

Have fun :D

Don't worry! First show I took my lad too, didn't plait didn't have a clue what to do in the show part and he took the class and won a rather nice large trophy :D Try to enjoy yourself smile and be friendly, look forward to lots of photos!
