I'm sure most of you don't remember me and my ginger ex-racer, but I used to post occasionally here. He got to Medium dressage but I retired him last year at 11 due to his kissing spine becoming slowly more and more unmanageable.

SO, I got a new job as well and can now afford to have a rideable horse alongside the young retiree.

I'd been looking for some time but not found anything so I eventually decided to go to a racing auction. I got there and picked up a nice 16.2ish three year old. Was a bit nervous as I only got to see him walk for thirty seconds so no idea how he moved etc in other paces but he was unplaced and I liked him so snapped him up cheap. He arrived yesterday! So I am now the proud owner of two chestnut thoroughbred geldings.

Hoping to use him for dressage competitively, and a bit of jumping etc at home. I think he's going to turn into quite a bold type of horse with time.

Don't have much in the way of proper conformation photos, but here he is standing briefly on very uneven ground before he trotted off again!

After his ten minutes in the field (the rain had flooded the roads and the like so the grass was very slippery and the lightning was starting) we took him to his stable. He's had two very long journeys plus an auction in two days so was obviously exhausted, and after half an hour decided that it was time to relax. He even let me go in and put on a fly mask and stroke him while he lay there :)

Mini introduction over! Hopefully you'll be seeing more updates from us in the near future :)

Very nice horse and that's from someone who wouldn't touch a TB with a barge pole. Agree with AA you've got a good eye. Good luck with him, look forward to hearing about his progress.

Thank you everyone! I'm feeling fairly optimistic about his future :)

He's stunning, well done!. Fly mask? Are you in a hot country, I've got an inch of frost :)

I'm in South Africa! We haven't had much rain but when we do, it comes in torrential form accompanied by massive amounts of lightning and thunder. It's been in the high 30's to 40's pretty much every day since October.

Oh I would hate your weather! But I love your horse, he has one more sock, but other than that he's identical to my first horse, who went on to do a really nice dressage and was a great jumper. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun.

Name?

It isn't always quite this hot, but there's been a drought/heatwave. I still think I prefer it to the weather England seems to have had the last few months ;)

His name is Chestnut Grove...still figuring out his stable name

He is gorgeous! I'm not a TB fan but he has swayed me! :P .... Do keep us updated with his progress :)

Best of luck with him and congrats on the new job!

He is really lovely I love liver chestnut what about the name Sidney ? Sid for short I know it's nothing like chestnut grove but I think it suits him:) good luck with him.

Thank you everybody! I saw him today and think I already love him a little bit...

Going to give him a quick lunge tomorrow then sit on him as soon as I've established if I have a saddle to fit him! :)

Thank you everyone :) I hope he lives up to expectations ;)

Somewhere I've some photos of his sire Black minnaloushe, I'll look them out for you- your boy looks lovely!

He's quite a well known sire here! I know he won the Irish guineas or something but he's been standing in SA for some time and sired quite a few winners...although obviously plenty of average horses too. Would love to see them!
