.... she came with a straight Happy Mouth type with fixed rings. I couldn't really feel the contact, so we ditched that. Tried a pelham with a port, not good! Head all over the place and hated any pressure on it. Now in a Myler with fixed rings and a barrel - fine in this unless asked to stop! But, seems to like a firm contact (firmer than I usually ride).

When she was at Newmarket they noticed her 'somewhat unsteady head carriage' and tried a jointed loose ring Nathe snaffle with rubber cheek guards, which she seemed to prefer. I haven't heard of these and wondered as to peoples opinions.

When she came to me she had a running martingale, but I've ridden without for the last few months.

Now, when asked to come back from anything faster than a walk, her head goes up and her neck twists slightly.

She's in a cavesson noseband done up slightly loose.

A bit of a curved ball but have you thought of trying bitless for a while? It taught D that no amount of giraffing was going to get her out of the contact.

The BGL has a loose ring french link snaffle - a KK one though as he is a spoilt brat....

Inca also has the same and has a baucher.

The KK's certainly encourage them to mouth the bit - they have a wide range. I am afraid you have just reached the bottom of my bit knowledge............

D - thought of bitless. Hm. Will have to research!

Slinks - having bought two Mylers in the last year at £70-odd each

. Ho hum. Guess will have to go buying again lol.

Friend suggested a Myler combination, but I know little about those (other I can hear my bank manager reaching for his pills).

I would recommend a visit to the Bit Bank before splashing out on anything else. There is a very good one in Grimston, Leics - about 45 mins from you - they have more bits than I have ever seen and certainly wouldn't know what to do with them!! but the people there are fab and you talk through your horse, issues, what you are tryin gto achieve etc. They will recommend a bit or two - you take it away and leave them with cc details and you get 14 days trial. Make sure you hack, school, have a lesson etc and basically use it everyday and do everything you would use it for to get a real feel for it. They phone you after a fortnight - if you want it they charge it to your card, if for any reason it is wrong it goes back/change for another and they charge you a small fee (about £20).

Better than buying another bit that isn't right.
