I guess every practice has different ways of pricing.

Ours don't do area days but have a fixed call out so on bigger yards we always tried to coordinate non emergencies - I had 1/8 of a call out once. What you paid for the call out seems in line with what ours charge.

For examination ours has a 3 tier system, first examination which is about £35 ( it's an odd number not rounded up); reexamination which is cheaper, can't remember how much but maybe about £20 and I've had a brief examination which was about £10. This acknowledges the difference between the initial diagnosis which might be time consuming and complicated and a follow up visit to check progress. I would have expected what you describe to be one of the cheaper options.

It's not always applied consistently though, the senior vet is much more likely to put something on my bill as a brief exam than a reexam than the more junior vet.
