A nosey, unimportant "how do you keep your horses" thread!

I currently keep my 2 ponies at a DIY yard whilst I am building stables on my field back at home which I am then going to share with my friend. :)

I am starting to keep my cob and welsh D in during the day and out at night in the summer as they have just rotated round to a field which has a lot of lush grass, but usually I would keep them out 24/7.

I used to keep them in a field which surrounds the back of my house last year but I had some work done to my house and that was causing a lot of noise and disruption to the field so I had to move them to the DIY yard just down the road, but I can't wait until I have them back at home with their new stables :D Nothing is better than having your horses at home! even though I did occasionally hear a whinny in the morning to wake me up and remind me to feed them!.

I have my two on 22 acres of beautiful Hadrians Wall country at home (well ok the little one in a fatty paddock) with sheep to share the grazing and a stream running through the middle. It's been 20 years since I could have horses at home and it's such a pleasure. All thanks to my lovely OH. We have a summer and winter field, huge barn with loosebox, and miles of roads and tracks to explore. No schooling facilities whatsoever but I couldn't care less! I'm just happy being able to see them from every window in the house :-)

Barn with ten boxes, seven acres, three menages, gallops
Four of my neds plus one full livery.
:)
Horses live out except Jan/feb when they are in six til six.
Livery is same but she can have her horse in more if she wanted.

Sounds lovely! You're not far from me :)

A lovely hunt yard about 4 miles from my house, all the land is owned by the YO who is a keen hunter and the best YO EVER!

There are 35 horses at the top yard and 24 in a yard about a mile away but we have the indoor school, showjump field, xc course, gallops, vets on site and weekly farrier. The lower yard (10 min hack) has an outdoor school.

Conn is one of the few on DIY at the top yard and we have 24/7 summer turnout and daytime winter turnout in lovely fields and all hay/haylidge/straw is made on the farms.

The west of yore hunt regulally meet at the yard and we have over 1000 acres of bridleways including being able to ride around fountains abbey, pure perfection in hacking!

Livery on DIY though. He goes out at night, in during the day over summer and swapped around over winter. He goes out 365 days a year come snow, ice, rain. We just grit the yard and get on with it! Being fortunate enough to have convinced the yard owner to not let any more horses on we have good, non-rutty grazing all year round! Hes just started a summer holiday but I usually ride 6 days a week when in work.

On the yard most are in the same routine bar the shetlands (laminitic) who are in their own shetland paddock! Its the only part of the yard full of weeds (docks mainly and they dont touch them) and they are deliberately left over summer to keep the grass down, then topped for winter so the field looks all pretty again. There are two other laminitic ponies out in the normal fields, one who has come down with lami (owner fed ad-lib hay all winter and pony is obese) and the other who is in a richer field but fine.

I have 3 (2 ponies & 1 horse) that I keep on a privately rented yard that I share with my friend who has 1 pony.

The 4 of them live out with access to stables as and when they want them. (we leave the doors tied open securely so they can come in when they like)

They are all so happy and relaxed together. We have 4 acres in total with natural shelter and hedges to forage in around the edges.

I bring my old man in mist days for a little rest but after an hour or so he's ready to go back out again.

I keep my girl at a DIY livery 6miles from home. It is overall a great livery yard, kept my previous beloved girl there. I tried cheaper yards locally but always went back to current one as it is by far the best I have been on for various reasons.
YO is very good, has no hard and fast rules per say, is laid back and just asks for more common sense rules really. I have a stable and my own paddock for Nell , she is allowed to live out 24/6 365 days a year, I have my paddock and it is down to me to manage the grass basically. They do maintenance ofcourse like weed spraying and putting down grass seed where and when needed but it is down to me to manage it, love it :)

Keep mine on a small private yard 2 on the farm next door to the farm I live on! It only has 2 stables which aren't up to more than storage but my mare won't come in so thats not a problem.

We have around 12 acres over 4 fields and at the moment its just my 27yr old mare, 2 yr old gelding and my 2 new mini shetlands as company! but my friend is coming back, yay, with her 6yr old mare :) I'm so excited haha!

We have 2 field shelters so if needs be the horses can be shut in them in the winter but they haven't been since I've been there but they have the option to go in and out in bad weather! they are big enough for all 3 to fit in as well :)

its in a tiny tiny village (if you can call it that, about 12 houses) and I am the only horsey person in the village, which suits my mare down to the ground as she's a massive stress head around other horses so in the 11 yrs I've had her, the last 2 years that I've been here are the only 2 years that I have actually been able to enjoy hacking her out!

I don't have a school or anything like that but there is one at the end of my rode, so about 1 mile hack away! and the farm i live on is 2000 acres, theres only a couple of bridleways going through the farm but they go for MILES but I can ride around the whole farm, as long as I don't scare off my dads birds during the shooting season!! so from where I used to be its basically like "living the dream" :)
