A plea for help; Hayling Island

Not quite; they're possibly looking at removing the bylaw during the summer months, because of how busy the beaches are currently. Oh and the fact riders have been using it outside of the permitted times.

I saw videos from Hayling the other night of after 7pm, and with the amount of people around I wouldn't have taken a horse near it! Perhaps riders could make sure everyone knows what the right times are rather than starting a petition to the council. About time people took some responsibility for their own actions.

There isn't an abundance of safe places for people to ride on the island.

It's busy this year because of lockdown, no shows etc. Next year will be back to normal.

Removing riders rights to the beach in restricted hours through summer is no different than removing access to a bridle path.

I'd hazard a guess and say the majority of those using Hayling to ride currently do not live on the island! It'll no doubt be these people who have broken the rules.
 
Why should all horse riders suffer because of the actions of the irresponsible few? I don't live on Hayling but visit often and have taken my horse down there in the past (after 7pm). I hope to do so again. Haven't had a chance to walk there yet this year, but the beach at Gunners Point when the tide is out is vast and there is plenty of room for all in a normal year, although possibly not this year! I have never seen the Chichester Avenue beach car park as full as it was at noon on Wednesday. Anyone riding at the wrong time of day should be fined.
 
Its the idiots who are just rocking up as and when they fancy and then galloping around like lunatics in amongst everyone that has caused this. I saw a facebook 'off to the beach' post from someone who was on their way to hayling a7 4pm yesterday. You've got those people to thank for it!
 
It's a pity about the spelling mistakes/typos in the petition, it's always best to check these things and tbh the several mentions of 'galloping' don't help to present a picture of law- abiding, considerate use. I understand that local riders don't want to lose their historic rights but some things do us no favours.
 
There is a sign as you ride down on to the beach, with the permitted times on it. It is so frustrating that the minority are causing a problem. However, we have not gone down there this year as know it will be packed full of other riders and dog walkers etc.
