A plea...

I had issues on old yard as field had 2 gates. 1 livery fenced off a bit round 1 gate for hers and used to leave gate to road open when hers weren't out meaning ours were kept off road by electric fence only which was often not on. Kept doing this even after our lot went through electric 3 or 4 times till yo locked gate!

OP very sorry to hear what happened yesterday.

Would like to add a massive congratulations on doing the right thing and alerting us all even when you're acknowledging making a mistake.

Very brave thing to do.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your boy.

Oh gosh how awful for you! Thank you so much for being brave enough to post on here and give us a reminder. Really hope your horse makes a full and speedy recovery x x

It takes alot to hold hands up and say"i made mistake" esp just to give us all a nudge to remember not to be complacent. i hope your boy recovers quickly . thank you x

Thank you for all of your kind words, I will update more on his progress next week. I have everything crossed.

Thank you again, we unfortunately learn so much more from mistakes... :(

Missed this story yest so thanks for posting again.

I can't even imagine how terrified you must have been, just hope your boy will be ok.

Please don't beat yourself up or feel guilty over this, we all make mistakes, no one is perfect. I've done loads of stupid things in life, but its not until after, when the adrenaline has kicked in, that i've realised what a close shave I've had!

I think posting your story on here was a really brave thing to do, hopefully it will remind others to close gates and just generally be a bit more aware of things like this in the future. :)

Thank you for posting this OP and I very much respect you for holding your hands up to a mistake. I hope your boy gets better soon...and a hug for you cos I think you need it..!!!! xxxx

Horrible thing to have happened.

I hope your horse makes a full and speedy recovery.

Im glad the drive was ok too.
Hopefully she was understanding in that it was just an accident.

Oh my! I've just caught up with this. OP, you are to be commended for being so honest, and alerting everyone to the danger. Please don't beat yourself up about it though, we are all guilty of making stupid mistakes sometimes, and becoming complacent. Be glad yours had a better outcome than could have been. I know you must keep replaying it in your head, but thankfully the lady is ok, if a bit shocked, and I should think you are too, I hope your horse recovers for you, bless him. I know you must be worried. You have been very brave and honest to post this. Please keep us updated on your horse. Thoughts are with you and your horse x

How terrifying.

Both my previous yard and the one I'm at now, have a long drive to the road with gates at both ends. On both yards the routine is to ONLY close the gates if there's going to be no-one there or if a horse is loose.

It does worry me, as if a horse suddenly gets loose and decides to fly off up the track which eventually leads to the road, no-one would be likely to be able to stop them. :( There's nothing I can do as even if I closed the gate, the person who came through it after me would tie it open.

That must have been terrifying, I am so pleased the lady driving wasn't injured and really hope your boy has a speedy recovery. I admire your honesty and think this story just shows how easily something can go wrong. We all take risks, most of them we get away with.

Big hugs, I hope you are ok.
