A pondering on rehoming aggressive dogs

My old dog was human aggressive, as is my horse. My horse would never be sold on the open market - only ever to an approved home who had proved themselves able to deal with him. Or he'd be shot. Same with Baba, he would have been PTS if someone who knew him couldn't have taken him.

Yes, there are always the variables, thank goodness. Sadly not so many people could take on animals like this safely. Huge respect for those that can and do.

No of course and in which case there is no shame at all, in PTS. There are hundreds of safe dogs just lounging about in UK rescue dying for homes, it would be good to focus on them and maybe once we solve that problem, rescues can dedicate more time to rehab-ing dangerous dogs

If anyone has or knows of anyone who has an "aggressive" dog that they would like help with, then log onto www.sosdogrescue as they have dogs looking for homes plus they also offer training sessions, from puppy through to crate training and specialise in aggressive dogs - especially the GSD but do do other breeds.

They have two contacts - one in Newmarket and one in Surrey. There isn't much on the website as they have literally only put it together a few days back - and ignore the typos, spelling and grammer - dogs are their thing not English language, but they know what they are doing.

Personally speaking, we see the dogs in the care of the Newmarket home on a daily basis - they take them for walks a few times a day and always call in to our workplace to say hello and to meet the new intake, and I can honestly say that they are genuinely cared for. They live as part of the families which take them in and come into daily contact with children too.

If anyone is looking to take on a neglected or rescued dog, do contact them.

When we made enquiries about Dougal various rescues said they wouldn't take him in for rehoming due to his aggression. Whilst I can understand their point (the evil mutt is a great candidate for being PTS...) I can see why a less caring person would then just dump a dog. :(

I think they should be concentrating on rehoming the happy dogs, rather than wasting resources on fixing dogs with issues. :o
