I have just found what ( seems like ) my ideal pony

A 19 year old 14.3hh confidence giver . She has a injury which means only light work and 'will not work in a outline' . She is advertised with all tack and rugs with an asking price of £800 - does that sound like a fair price in the current climate ?

i think thats a fair price, considering her age, her injury and her inability to work in an outline. if shes what you want id go for it, but id be careful about haggling it down as you will probably get about £200 of tack and rugs, maybe a bit more, so really shes costing you £600...

If shes worth it to you then shes worth it. I bought a 18 year old 12.2 pony who has more health issues than you could read on a vet report last year for £2000. My son is having a ball on her and with careful management she is sound as a pound. Everyone said I was mad but she was what I wanted and she owes me nothing. You have to realise that its a one way investment, though, I could never sell Poppy and wouldn't sell on a 20 year old anyway, even if they were sound.

Hi Lucy_Poppy,

Your vet's vetting will help you a lot more, as he/she will see the pony at first hand. I'd also strongly recommend getting a local qualified trainer to have a look (www.bhs.org.uk provide list of registered trainers in your area) (if i've got web address wrong, well at least you'll have a good selection of clothes from British Home Stores!!)

BTW she sounds lovely, sort of pony everyone wants for their first! And your own gut feel is best guide. Good luck, friend, BS x
