Ellie was allowed to go out in the 'recovery' paddock today....for about 4 minutes

She is still bandaged from fetlock to mid-thigh (vet advised us to keep her covered up for about a week to ensure no germs get into the wound during the healing process, so a few more days to go yet!). Needless to say, the bandage did not last long during a fit of massive Ellie bucks (when she bucks, she completely turns herself inside out!) She galloped around a few times - not easy in a paddock measuring less than an acre - and tbh if the bandage wasnt there I doubt she'd really even seem lame, just a little unlevel. She certainly didnt seem to feel any pain, the way she was throwing herself around!

Obviously going ballistic isnt ideal for a recovering horse, so we left her just long enough to get her back down and then went and caught her again (everyone's been calling her Nora Batty for her stocking!

Field antics aside, she has been an absolute angel throughout it all. If I had kept her in just for the sake of it, she'd have been weaving like crazy and trying to kick her box out - she's not one for being involuntarily cooped up. But since being kicked, it's like she knows she has to be a bit careful and sensible, and she's been a total star - everyone has commented

She's now off the Danilon and has just one dose of anti biotics left, so we're well on the way I think

Thanks to everyone who has sent healing vibes to her - they seem to be working! Either that, or it's my endless supply of Polos that are doing the trick.....

Thanks everyone! I cant believe how lucky she has been - I know I go on about it, but still

Just looking forward to the new yard now, we can make a fresh start (and do some XC!!)

Glad to hear she is feeling better.

I found sedalin a god send when allowing Be restricted turn out after her latest injury. Maybe see if your vet will give you some for the next time you let her stretch her legs

Thanks Puppy - that may well be an option just for the first couple of days! We have to go and get some more dressings from the vets later anyway so may have a word then and see what they think
