We had our ex racehorse to his first ever outdoor show yesterday, we had been a bit concerned as we thought the combination of the great outdoors and a ride judge for the first time might prove a bit much for him and.....

he was an absolute angel, came off the box had a quick look round, munched some grass, got his tack on warmed up nicely and sensibly, went in the first class, amateur riders PUK riding horse/hack/hunter qualifier just to make sure he wasn't in 'explosive' mode before we let an innnocent ride judge on his back!! He went beautifully, including in his gallop which can be a bit hit and miss but for no apparent reason wrong legged it twice to be deservedly 4th out of 4!! We forgave him though as he behaved incredibly well apart from this.

He went in the ex racers and was pulled first out of ten in a really strong class, but I think we had worn him out as when the (spurless) ride judge got on him he was faaar too tired to go straight into canter, bless him and he was dropped to third.

So didn't come home wreathed in glory but for his first ever outdoor performance and ride judge I think he coped amazingly well.

It was a lovely sunny day and believe it or not the two rings that I watched were both very fairly judged!!! Just thought I would balance the recent negative showing posts with a nice positive one!:)

Yey!! Well done, for the show and for the post! So nice to read someone who didn't win still being pleased!

It's always nice to hear about positive experiences, I remember being taught when I used to show young/inexperienced horses, that the most important thing is to give them a positive experience!

So well done :D !!!

Well done both of you i know how hard it is to keep them sane at shows, but it just proves that you are obviously doing something right ( big pat on the back)
Did you get any pics??
