Deary me...
Some of you may have noticed that I haven't really mentioned my older dog B, or posted pics for a while, that's because he has not been in good shape for a while.
I did not post pics of him because he looked terrible, like an old man, not a dog who turned five in September.
To cut a long story short, he had (and probably always did have) anal furunculosis, which only became apparent after a large fissure developed. After discussion and without going into too much gory detail about how this manifested itself and the way in which it is treated, we decided to give him sleep, he had already had enough drugs and surgeries, too many for even a dog twice his age, it's a horrible condition, it is very painful and there is no cure so we thought we could not put him through anything more.
I stayed with him at the end and it was very peaceful. I am relieved that he is no longer suffering and also that we finally can pinpoint the source of the vast majority of his problems.
I thought that his doggy female fans and those human ones who have followed us on our long journey with all its ups and downs.
He was never truly 'well' and should never have been allowed to live past six weeks old, but he did, and he was here, and my life would be so much different if he had not been here.
I am sure some of you have already seen a gazillion pictures of him, but I will only post one, from my birthday in 2011, just after he made Tracking Dog I - despite being a crappy showline dog with a million food allergies and no drive - when I believe he was looking and feeling the best that he ever had.
Run free fella, freer than you ever could in this life, smile and fly that tail like a banner, and thank you for everything that you gave me.
