Hello !
Wondering if you could shed any light on how much you would expect this type of horse to be 'up' for

15hh Welsh Sec D
Dark Bay
8/9yo
Completly overweight ( suprised he hasnt got lami tbh
frown.gif
)
Out of work
Not schooled in the slightest ( can walk, trot, canter, jump tho
tongue.gif
)
Nice quality cobblet ( would show m&m )
Bomproof to everything , but can be nappy
Previously driven in a pair (till he was 5 )

Ideas

Around here he'd be easily up for £2 - £2.5K if not more. I'm not saying that's what he's worth, and I know it depends on part of the country etc, but everyone seems to be looking for 14.3-15.2 cobs in that age bracket especially ones that are showable and reasonably sane. The fact that he's out of work and overweight doesn't put us off (speaking as someone whose just put a deposit on an overweight, out of work cob after some time horse searching).

Wow, i find it extraudinary how much people are willing to pay for a horse. Fair enough its your money but, huh, i would never pay 2000 for a horse thats borderline on lami or over weight and not in work....besides 'potential' in the show ring after many months or even years trying to control his weight and fittness, what are you buying? say you did buy it for 2000, you have the potential problem of paying for lami vet bills, special feed to keep his weight down. Also at the end of the day, hes not a young horse and he should be slightly schooled at that age...and dont see the point spending 2000 on a non-schooled middle aged horse who is over weight and not done any work. It will take alot of time and MORE money in order to get this horse at its peek, and when it is and ready for any type of competing he'l probably be about 11 which isnt old but might exasibate problemss....anyway thats what i think..i would only pay 900. Am i right in saying you want to buy this pony? and not sell? im sorry if this is a bit bold if your selling him, but if your thinking of buying him i hope you spend your money with great consideration and thought..good luck anyway!! xxx

Yes I am very keen on buying him ...
Some of your statments worry me though ..

Since when has 8 been middle-aged ?

3 years to get him out competing
shocked.gif
thats worrying

He is very overweight but ... that would easily come off as he is out 24/7 on good grass and in no work ..

He has never presented symptoms of Lami , I just can't believe his weight ..

I rode him before he was sold on and I know this horse is willing and eager to work .. even though he is obese he will still pull and be lively out hacking keen to do something ... I value him at alot more than £850 ...

wel, its hardly youth. and i wonder why they have chosen to sell him sayt that age having done work and then turned away without no schooling
smirk.gif
If hes the type of horse that tends to naturally look too well, i hardly think he'l loose weight on what you state is good grass. but what ever happens...good luck.

Do you want to show him then? any pics? im really curious to know why you have chosen to buy this particular horse, if i may ask? as a project, or an investment i would guess? but i cn predict its going to be hard work seen as hes had no schooling and is over weight and thus probably unfit presently......
crazy.gif
but then again im also up for a challenge and love things like that.

He was sold on to a lady that has no intrest in riding and wanted him as a 'pet' she is now moving abroad ...
I've known him since he was a 5yo .. I do know him inside out like he was another one of my horses ..
We have far to much grass at my yard and that why he looks too well , he is also spoilt and fed aswell ...
Yes he is indeed a project for me to keep over the winter and hopefully hunt as the 4yo isn't ready , he will then be for sale in the Spring .
I've never heard of 8 being old ... isn't 12 there prime afterall
smirk.gif

I do hope to show him as a M&M worker and use him to hunt ... I dont want to post piccies as he is not mine and not on the 'open market ' as such so I think it would be unfair on his owner ...

smirk.gif
yeah fair enough if hes not on the open market....i didnt actually say he was old i said that he was'nt 'YOUNG' and neive if you know what i mean, hes 'approaching' adult stage and normally but not al the time you would expect a broken horse to be atleast slightly schooled or done some work by the age of 8 but again, i dont know the circumstances...good luck with your project then.

Thankyou .. hopefully it will be as much fun owning him as it is riding him atm

I was going to say £1,000.

Sarah, I bought one very similar sounding when I was 14. I took a year to sort her out and then we went out and won everything she did (mainly WHP, then unaff ODEs). I sold her for £7k when I went to uni. She was awesome and I would to have kept her but just couldn't whilst at uni.

So, yes it can be done and I think it taking 3 years to get out competing is a tad pessimistic!! You just have to take each horse on its own merits.

Good luck

650 - 950

Can buy this type all day long at sales for the above prices

1k. No way would I pay more for a horse thats done virtually nothing, is out of work and has no schooling.

Would be a quick jobbie to turn around though!

Bloody hell C_B. If 9 is old then Boo is prehistoric at 17, and Trixie... a zombie at late 30's!

Blimey, can't get my head around that one at all!
