A probably very obvious mucking out question

How often do you completely take out and replace absolutely all the bedding? I know this may seem like a very daft question, just was wondering after looking at the bedding post below! I would skip out and fluff up the bedding during the week and then throw the bedding up against the side at the weekend, get all the dirty bedding out, turn the bedding and then smooth and fluff up! Never knew how often we'd change it as the actual owner would take care of that etc when she had the horse on her days. So yeah, what are your mucking out routines and how often do you completely replace all the bedding, and how often do you scrub the stables clean? Pointless post I know, just a-wondering! Cheesecake for all who've read xx
 
I scrubbed my stable walls today and washed under my rubber matting - I so deserve cheescake - I don't think i've ever removed every last bit of bedding but then again my boy is dirty so stuff never stays there for long!
 
Once a year - either when horse & rider are at PC camp or in November when horse is out 24/7 on hols. We takeout all bedding, lift mats, pressure wash whole stable & both sides of mats, disinfect, paint, put cleaned & disinfected mats back in and put down a new bed.

Just done it 2 weeks ago over PC camp........
 
Absolutly everything? twice a year, once end of october ready for the horses coming in, and then again at the end of winter!
Hard work, and definatly a whole half a days job to do right, but there is something satisfying about seeing it totally bedded down again nice and fresh!
 
I have rubber matting now and at present mine are out 24/7 so they don't have any bedding down.

Before I had matting I used to take out poopy, throw all bedding up and take out all the wet every day, I use the older bedding as banks and put fresh as the actual bed :) this was done everyday (except for the adding fresh straw bit!)

When they go out for the summer, I take it all out.
 
My banks stay in place as have a horse who really likes to roll but middle of bed is mucked out and swept every day and topped up with clean straw. Do try to take out one side of the banks every so often but really need a groom!! Any offers?
 
Major disinfect and repaint annually. Two of mine are on straw bedding so that gets cleaned out and rotated regularly, the other is on deep litter hemp - the base stays down but the top is cleaned off regularly
 
I 'skip' out and take some of the wet out in the week, but not much as they are on deep litter, then dig the middle out of Blues (only taking the worst out though, if the straw is salvagable i'll save it) once a week-ish as he digs his bed up, buries poo and generally makes a mess. Then dig Hercs out every few weeks when it starts to get really bad, but he's quite clean - unless he's had to stay in - so mast of the wet is in the same place all the time.
 
I deep litter my horses. Haven't done anything to Sunny's deep litter bed in about 3 years and it's as fresh and fragrant as the day it was laid. Molly's (shetland) deep litter bed is a bit harder to keep as she is in for 20 hours a day due to the risk of laminitis. She makes a mess of the front few feet of it every day but the rest stays perfect. New little shetland Lady, I'm still working on getting her deep litter started. It takes a while until the underneath layer starts to turn to peat. We're getting there though.
 
Once a year I take out all the old bedding and disinfect and clean stables and rubber mats. I take the bedding out as they are turned out 24/7 in the summer and the old bedding got really dusty. Took the bedding out two weeks ago and hoping to clean out stables next week.
 
I'm on straw, do a full muck out every day. Throw clean straw to opposite side of stable take out all the crud,sweep, throw bucket of water on the manky pee'd on bit of floor every week or so, lay clean bed down.. just completly disinfected yesterday..i feel so fullfilled :)
 
My horse has a huge stable and it takes me ages to completly muck out every day. I thoroughly mucked out every day last winter and couldn't walk afterwards so this year I am going to deep litter during the week and on a sat totally muck out and a good muck out sunday. I take the whole bed out at the end of summer and the end of winter, disinfect, clean walls etc.
 
Ohh I'm learning a lot, thanks guys! Just had a curious musing about how often you needed to completely replace all of the bedding - my friend at her own yard with her own horse would take all the bedding out once a week and replace and I thought that was a tad obsessive.. so wondered what everyone else did! xx
 
i skip out daily (straw bed), every few weeks i lift the floor to dry (deep litter due to madam always lying down!)
i disenfect and completely empty bed just before winter and at the end of winter and it is such a nice feeling when i do this :) x
 
We fully muck out every straw bed daily, all wet is removed and banks moved and the floor is swept before the bed in put back down, the banks are used to fill the base of the bed and then fresh straw is put down on the banks.

All stables are jet washed and disinfected as soon as the horses go out for summer, they are then white washed and painted too.

I didnt think straw was very good for deep littering??
 
I've got rubber matting and shavings - did the whole stable today. Mats out and disenfected/pressure hosed and floor and walls scrubbed and disinfected. Took me hours and I'm falling asleep now! Also had to spend ages in the shower when I got home and pretty sure my car smells fairly unpleasant lol.
