i need to get my horse accepting and working into the bit more and chomping it. she is 12 and in bad habits and although we are working on it and currently recieving over 67% @ prelim my instructor thinks she needs some encouragement as they will be looking for more at novice etc. so my question is what is best to use ive read about vaseline, bit butter, toothpaste, just polos. what are peoples experiences ?

thanks

I've only used bit butter for horses with sensitive mouths as you would vasaline to reduce the friction in their mouths especially those in happy mouth/soft bits but i haven't noticed a marked improvement in their schooling because of it

That was my question really does it do.anything I didn't really understand its purpose. Lol will.give the sugar lumps or apple ago though if nothing else she's getting a treat thanks for your replies

I found that using bit butter really encouraged my boy to accept the bit when putting the bridle on (had a few issued before then, and nothing to do with teeth!), as for schooling though, am not sure it really did a huge amount...
