This weekend we are splitting our new field in half, to allow a winter field and a summer field....

I am going to be using wooden posts with electric tape and insulators. I also have a good 200metres of galvanised fencing wire, not barbed. I am wondering, should I do top strand and bottom strand electic, and middle strand the plain wire? I am only thinking this because I have it and it could do with being used for something! If not I will just go out and buy another load of electric tape, but opinions please!

I would do the job properly and do it with heavy duty post and rail fencing which will last a life time.

Wire fencing is bad news as horses can seriously injure themselves on it.

The best way to fence is to put posts in first then Equi-Fencing (tight knit sheep fencing) followed by three heavy duty rails. That way nothing can kick through the fence line.

Thanks for suggestion but its not my field, I am only renting it. So although I am renting on a long term/5 year basis I would not want to spend a huge fortune on p&railing a field for someone else's benefit.

I dont need to worry about anything kicking through a fence, as it is only my two who will both be on the same side of the fence at the same time!! Its more so I can rotate them round to rest one half at a time, and I want to use wooden posts instead of flimsey electric fence plastic posts as these tend to go brittle and break and I want something semi-permanent.
