So I've been stalking this forum for a while but wondering if you could help clear up a bit of confusion I have over eventing classes
It's probably easiest if I outline what I think I know and you fill in the gaps/corrections! :D

So you have affliated and unaffliated events...affliated are BE events right? BE classes you get BE80, BE90, BE100, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced...obviously BE80, 90 etc. are 80cm, 90cm etc. but what height are novice, intermediate and advanced?
But then what level is Pre-Novice...or is that another name for BE100? So confusing
So is that all of the affliated levels, and what level do unaffliated events run up to?
I'd really appreciate any help, as you can probably tell I'm getting in a bit of a muddle! :D

I can help.. up to so far!

- Affiliated is BE yes.
- Novice is 1.10m as far as I know - I wouldn't know any higher up though, sorry.
BE90 and BE100 were previously called Intro and Pre-Novice - people still use these terms though.

The biggest unaffiliated one day event I have come accross is a equivilant of BE Novice.

Hope this is of some help - sorry I can't help much more with the rest!

I'm not going to be much help but unaffiliated seem to always be measured in feet and inches rather than metres +, tricky for one as numerically challenged as I am :(. Don't think I've come across U/A bigger than 3' 6" which I'm guessing is Novice BE height.

im pretty sure this is right:

British Eventing (BE) levels of eventing are as follows:
BE80(T) : max fence height 0.80m
BE90 (formerly Intro): maximum fence height 0.90 m
BE100 (formerly Pre-Novice): max fence height 1.00 m
Novice : max fence height 1.10 m XC, 1.15 m SJ
Intermediate Novice: max fence height 1.10 XC; 1.20 m SJ
Intermediate: max fence height 1.15 m XC; 1.25 m SJ
Advanced Intermediate: max fence height 1.15 m XC; 1.30 SJ
Advanced: max fence height 1.20 m XC; 1.30 m SJ

may not be exact - taken from wikipedia as couldnt find it on BE website or be bothered to dig out rule book :P

Yup, all correct.

Unaffliated tend to max out at about 3'6. General impression to go for, though not exact, is 90cm = 3', 1m = 3'3, 1.10 = 3'6.

I'll be keeping this handy - useful to know exactly what max height each class is (especially if you have a mind like a seize like me!)
Good old wiki, I often think the BE website is quite tricky to locate exact pieces of info on

no, PN was always smaller than Novice.
You're allowed 2 SJ fences 5cms higher than the XC max. Also, XC, brush fences can be a lot higher than the max (the solid bit must only be max though) which can be quite surprising.
unaff is usually max Nov height, apart from Team Chasing, when the Open fences are sometimes humungous... esp the hedges, which can be much bigger than you'd be allowed at Advanced.
