Do you feel that you are doing DIYers a favour allowing them to have DIY livery? or do you see it as a service like any other but with much smaller profit margins?

No offence intended. I know that DIY makes very little money and its the add-ons that bring in any profit. I'm just curious...

If you add it up you will find that DIY liveries actually work out more profitable than full liveries. Our DIYs pay £44 per week- for that we provide a field and a stable and facilities to use. Any extras that the require are charged for(eg ctaching etc).DIY liveries take minimum staff labour.
Full liveries are charged £180 per week which include everything done and all hay, feed and bedding. If you take the cost of the hay, bedding, feed, staff hours exercising and caring for these horses you make far less profit than the DIY.
DIY liveries also tend to about more so pay for more lessons.
Hope that make sense

I love my diy's

I have 4 horses on diy at mine. their livery pays for my horses keep and I have company to ride with, people to look after my horses when I'm away and with more of us we get better rates on bedding etc so saves me money.

I do however look after theirs when away, arrange the farrier, feed delivery, vets and help out whenever needed without charge.

A fair arrangement to all parties so far but then I'm really lucky they all get on and there's no bitching.

Thanks! that's what I think it should be. I've just been a bit shocked by some yo attitudes recently (in real world) and wondered how others felt. From my point of view if DIY's dont make you any money then dont have them!
