A question for the more mature rider......

I'm 62 and enjoying my riding. Mostly gentle hacking and sometimes very lively hacking! My boy is 20yrs old but no different than when he was 10. The only thing stopping me doing more, ie pleasure rides, dressage is no transport. I hope we retire together.

wow. what a great thread, well compared to some of you I am still a spring chicken,
I am 42 approaching 43, been riding since age of about 8, still totally horse mad, am up at yard at 6.30am before work every day to sort out mine and my daughters horses and daylight permitting we both ride and school almost every evening and compete several weekends a month. ( only local stuff though nothing to fancy!)
I guess I keep pretty fit from all the riding and yard work and still compete and do everything I can with my horse, ( think I am trying to make up for not having the transport and money to go out and compete in my younger days !!) this horse I have had since was a yearling and he is 10 this year, he has been quite hard work and very strong minded in his younger days, but love him to bits, in fact have just entered our first ever One Day Event and am like an excited teenager cant wait........!
Yes, after hard day at the yard or after competing I often ache far more than I used to, but, a bit of deep heat some pain killers and a hot shower do wonders!!!!
I honestly cant ever see me giving up, in fact I found myself wondering the other day about getting another youngster to bring on for when mine gets a bit older, thinking daughter and I could share it when she gets big enough.. Oh dear must be mad!!!!!

also, as I work in an office all day, I think it keeps me from going stir crazy having the horses and fresh air to look forward to .even in the winter at -9 degrees......LOL

Hi 40 something just sold my gorgeous cob and now regreting it had bad accident4 yrs ago broke femur got plates ansd screws in now and have been told ive got osteoporosis and doc said if i come off again could end up in a wheelchair but i decided to give up riding after doin it all my life but i still am craving to ride again although was v nervous on my cob but she was brill have bought a lovely shetland but there is something missing riding my dad is 68yrs he has also got osteoporois and arthritis and still rides his quarter horse with no nerves i just feel so unhappy and wonder what to do help! Sorry for miserable post is there anyone else in my boat.

Rising 57 this year & concentrating on my new 4 year old. I find I get stiffer if I don't ride, the constant flexing seems to help, even the old injuries are better or perhaps it's just the adrenaline !

All these stories are all so inspirational, I was nearing the big 50 and decided its now or never in owning my first horse (I couldn't ride properly then, but that didn't matter my cob is very patient with me). Since then we have come a long way in a short time. My confidence has soared and I wonder why I didn't do this years ago, I really think I have found my nirvana.

I have got fitter and slimmer and yes, I do get aches and pains sometimes but that is mainly due to doing too much however, I never moan and groan because its a nice work and I shall carry on as long as my body lets me.
