A question for those whose horses graze on sandy soil

Do you feed sand-guard or sand-out (or similar product)? I moved my horse to an area with sandy soil and have been advised to feed this, but I know nothing about it.

How often do you have to feed it, and how much?

I buy psyllium (sp?) husk from Equus Health as its much cheaper than the branded products. I feed it for a week at a time every 6 weeks, so 1 week on and 5 weeks off and I feed a large 25ml supplement scoops worth (I think it's the same size scoop thats in NAF Magic). I did have probs with sand colic at our old yard which made me start feeding this and I have had no problems since. I'm on your typical sandy Surrey grazing btw.

Also on sandy soil but not had any problems - thats in nearly 12 years. Psyllium husk is good if you are worried, as already suggested, Global herbs also do this, sold as 'Clearout' - I think. I wouldn't say that sandy soil is automatically going to cause problems, it is the usual story, some horses will have a problem but most will not.
