This is his Be record here.

I can't tell you alot about him.. apart from what's already obvious by looking at his record.. not sure how big he is, at a guess 16.1hh ish...
He jumps for fun, and is only being sold as his owner/rider is [****] scared of jumping, always has been and has decided that there is no way she's ever going up to novice!!
She thinks alot of this horse and is therefore going to sell it, as it should be doing more..

Anyway, she's asked a few people what she should be asking... and opinion has been from £15k up to £35k... rather alot of difference.

so what do you guys think??

Also, just to give a little more backround.. the last event he won, the PNP at Dauntsey.. he beat Bettina Hoy, not only in the whole event, but did a better dressage too

Yeah, for sure he sould/could have done alot more as a 6yr old.. but as i said above, rider doesn't want to do any more than PN, she is very wimpy jumping.. hence why they are selling the horse...

The only to guides she has been given so far are very different, and we both feel neither are right..
i know he's not done alot, but what he has done has been pretty awesome, and he's an awesome horse to watch..
we both feel that £15k isn't enough.. but obviously £35k is way OTT ..

I thought about £22k ono, with the option to come down in price, or take an offer..

Cracking record!
As a guide my 4yo brother (which is 5) had a a good record (not quite as good but still placed highly all outings) and that was recently up for just under 20K. Haven't heard if it sold a that price.

Not worth very much at all, probably £10!
But as I am feeling generous I will go to £15 but you would have to deliver for that!!

I'd go with your instinct of £22k and drop for the right people, I know that is a huge sum of money but TBH he sounds like a bit of a saint and theres plenty of folks looking for horses like that.

just been looking on horsequest, and seems nothing is selling for big money at the mo (well obviously i guess)

There's a 6yr old, gone clear round a CCI* and with 5 points, for £16k.. so that would make my friends horse sound expensive at £15k... it's defo a buyers market at the mo..

Me thinks i should just tell her to look at HorseQuest at the mo..

It depends if they just want to sell him or need to sell him if you see what I mean.
He has potential, yes. But mere potential may not be enough to get mega bucks in this buyers market.
If they don't need to sell him, then may be best to wait til Spring. Get someone who could do a couple of Novice runs on him, presumably he will go well ? and ask a good price then. Sounds like he would make a good junior horse. They are very hard to find.

going by the fact that horse hasnt been out of the top 6 all season, I would think that horse would be very easy to sell!!

I would advertise at 24k, and say price negotiable - you may attract some pros

if horse has serious scope then 22k no lower

Oh didn't know they would sell him.
As u said MDS (like the new name
tongue.gif
) hes quite little (16hh I'd guess but 16.1 is poss). He is stunning and Sophie does produce them beautifully. Think you would have to go along "junior/young rider gold medal prospect" to get the high rollers in and then 22K (good price) as opening bid (then open to offers, prob around 18-20K I think)

surely best approach would be to get someone braver - can you not offer yourself MdeM (hehe!) to take it round a couple of novices, maybe even the CCI* early season at chepstow. If it went as well as it had this year, then it really would be £25-30k I would have thought.

his record this season is truely immaculate, unusually so.

They wern't going to, this is a very new decision..
Sophie loves him dearly as you prob. know.. and really didn't want to sell him.. but seeing as she never wants to go above PN they feel he's being wasted
frown.gif

She does produce them perfectly!!!
grin.gif

I would LOVE to offer my services to ride him in a novice or CCI* next season, but to be honest, i don't think i could take the pressure, and i'm someone who can take more pressure than most!!!! It has SUCH a PERFECT record, i wouldn't want to be the one to mess it up

I don't think selling him is the problem.. as there has already been alot of people asking for him... it's just knowing what she should ask for him..

As someone said, it all depends on if you 'want' to sell, or 'need' to sell...

I know of a similar one for sale for around your estimate, and think it's a fair price.
To find a consistently placed young horse like this one is rare; there are hundreds of horses that compete but never actually make the grade even at PN; I'd try H and H at £22k and see who bites...

One arrived on the yard I'm at a couple of months ago with a less impressive record than that but with *fantastic* attitude and temp and the owners shelled out nearly 30k...

Fantastic record!

If he were my horse i would get some BD and BSJA points/money over the winter and get a pro to do a couple of novices at the start of nest season before selling, if those go well I would say £25-£30K currently about £20k but with market as it is she may not get near that.

Does he have the scope to go up through the grades? For me that would be the question. I ask because we had a horse with an almost (but not quite) equal kind of record at PN, and a fantastic temprament but didn't really have the scope to go beyond novice. Fantastic up to a certain point. So scope would for me determine the value at this point.

Not meaning to sound bad, but i would say 15k is about right. perhaps ask 16K and then drop to 15. I mean the horse has a very good record, but it has only done intro and Pre novice, so unless it shows spectacular potential when it is viewed i would say anything above 20 is too steep because it has no proven ability above pre novice.
How old is it?
i understand others might not agree with the above, but it is just my own opinion.

ETA - that is not his complete record - he had 20 pen and R in 2007. A great shame that he rolled a pole at the Intro Champs! He would have won...

Has he done any SJ over 1m? As others have said, I would say it comes down to his scope. If he is very scopey and straightforward then in excess of £20k, particularly as a junior/young rider prospect. After 1.5 seasons I would really want to see that a talented horse was happy doing double clears at Novice, in which case would expect him to go for more. If she's in no rush to sell then I wouldn't let the price be bartered down too much.

Wow - what a record.

If you'd have asked in the summer I'd have said £25k no problem (considering the others advertised in H&H) but as you've said it's such a buyers market now (and also the beginning of winter....).

Agree with the others re 'potential' though - difficult to judge even with such a terrific record.

Sorry - no helpful suggestions on price - I'm rubbish at that!

I don't know why the link didn't work so I deleted it - but the link you put up only gave me his 2008 record. Don't know if it's just my computer...
