I'm doing working hunter and a riding/performance pony class at a fairly big show this weekend, should I paint/stain his hooves black? Pony is grey so am I right in thinking it would make his dark bits stand out and make him look whiter? Thanks!

What colour are his hooves? I personally prefer clear on White feet. Having said that I use the black on my youngsters stripey feet. He is ever so slightly toe in and has a White streak down his offside front foot that makes it look much worse. So I use black to disguise that.
Reading that back it's not much use is it?? Lol I think I'm trying to say it's personal preference! Try both before the show and see which you prefer?

Thanks for the quick replies! He has 3 black hooves and one which is mostly white, so looks like black might be better?

Don't try and stain the white hoof black, judges hate it and it is really frowned upon. Stick with clear. I have a grey with 3 black feet and a white one and always use clear on all four feet.

Pick up a copy of horse and hound and see what the pros winning are painting there feet with...9/10 times it's black. I have always been taught that if its plaited or hogged, its feet should be black.
