Just walking my dogs, (Yellow Lab and terrier bitch) when someone just very randomly asked if the Lab was a full lab and if so could she borrow him to breed from her lab x collie..

I very politely said he was past his best as he is nearing 14 years old so no!!
smirk.gif
She then went on to tell me that she had tried to ask other people but they had ben so snobby...well I informed her to have a look through the internet for dogs at stud....hope she follows my advice!!

So what would you have done if you were approached by a chavvette asking to borrow your dog??!!
grin.gif

Tbh I wouldn't have been as polite as you.
blush.gif
I would have pointed her in the direction of the internet to look at all the dogs in need of homes
frown.gif
Sadly I am sure she will find some muppet who is happy to help her produce more crossbred pups,

Yes well that was my thought!!!! And I cna understand why she is finding it hard to get a pure lab as I doubt anyone with a good dog would willingly breed to a mutt
crazy.gif
I was quite shocked she asked!! I know I wouldnt!!

Agree with MM, and that is exactly what I said in the past when a random skank asked to use my akita
crazy.gif
and our deerhound
crazy.gif
they where told to take a hike, that there are too many bloody dogs produced without a thought, inc my deerhound and akita, so bog off
tongue.gif

Surely not as in your female teddy bear Akita Cala?

I can't help wondering about a few things, was the bitch in season now, so since he is a full Lab, if you had said yes, you would have walked home to her place then and there? If she had tried to ask more than one other person before you (I presume others = more than one) and only gotten snobby responses, it hasn't occurred to her that it might not be just bad luck, without something wrong with her question?

Well I thought/think it's unlikely I will get the question, since I only have bitches, but if I did, I think my most likely response would be an interrogation. Why does she/he think they're bitch is breeding quality, what has it done, has their bitch had any health checks, do they know about how much it cost with raising puppies, can they afford a Caesarean section, who will buy the puppies, what if someone wants to return a puppy, what if one or more puppies doesn't get sold etc?

Not quite the same, and is probably going to make me sound a hypocrite
blush.gif
, but on one of Evie's first outings when she was about 12 weeks old, a couple stopped me and asked if I was planning on breeding from her
crazy.gif
I explained that a lot of things would have to be right first, eg conformation, hip scores , temperament etc, but possibly, and they took my name and phone number with a view to contacting me in 2 years time
smirk.gif

Someone asked my mother if they could put their longcoat bitch to my boy after two minutes of arriving at our property and looking at him in his run.

She politely said no and had to sit on me to stop me saying: 'er, he ain't hipscored, if he as much as looks at any foodstuff which is slightly out of the ordinary he turns himself bald, he has no sheath (don't ask) and he is only nine months old' - which he was, at the time.

My mother is the diplomatic one.

Glad im not the only person to get asked then!!!
smirk.gif

I told my OH and he said
'Good god! It would kill him!!'

He is nearing 14 years and he look old, is going quite grey around his face..poor old boy...

Yep, as in my female akita, they actually stuck their head over my driveway when I was out in the garden, said they had seen me walking her, and she was stunning, and that they had never seen another long coat in this area, but their friend was wanting their male long coat to cover her
crazy.gif
I said, "I dont fecking think so mate"

I cant stand it when people want to breed with a cross bred dog, And all this designer breeds, they are still cross breeds.

Why do people do it, yes they may be cute but the kennels are over run we dont need any more cross breeds.

Dont get me wrong mistakes happen, but i dont like it when People choose to cross breed.

That's what scares the crap out of me so I'm really glad when anyone shows interest in my lurchers, which they have done several times, that I can truthfully say they're all neutered.

Some people who were refused a mating with a dog belonging to my two's breeder broke into the facility, used the dog, then left without putting him back, he was found wandering in a back lane. Couldn't prove it was them, though!

Charming.

Sensible decision to not let her out of sight.
wink.gif
But obviously you did not express your views clear enough the first time you'd met...

does it really matter though if someone wants to breed their cross breed?? many people choose to get cross breed pups as a method of not getting some of the deformaties and traits caused by pedigree in breeding. In regards to asking people in the street if a mating would be possible then i think whats the harm in asking (although have never done it myself) as surely not every dog produced has to be pedigree and kennel club etc....??

It's a lot to do with judging a dog on sight.
'Oh, he looks nice, I'd like a puppy by him' - but what is in the dog's genes? Agression? A hereditary defect? Allergies? (not exclusive to pedigrees!)

Sure, my dog is a handsome boy, but he has a lot of problems which as a responsible person I would not want to pass on to a litter of puppies.

There is, of course, no HARM in asking but IMHO you cannot judge a dog purely on sight knowing absolutely nothing about its background.

There are plenty of homeless dogs out there because someone 'wanted' to breed them.

yeah i agree that a person should know the dog but when someone asks (who are not crazy) then they should really ask about the temperament of the dog etc and when someone does ask then the bitch is not usually in season (as would be having problems on walks with keen male dogs im sure if that was the case) so by the time the bitch was in oestrous then im sure the person could have met the dog and established its history and behviour etc. I do agree that there are plenty of homeless dogs but often they are pedigree dogs too (with planned breedings) due to inept owners incapacity to handle them

Mutts do have fewer degenerative disease and issues etc (generally speaking)

I dont know about asking on the street, but as stated, no harm in asking, but each side would have to do their research, and she prob didnt mean lets bonk now in all fairness, but being someone you didnt know, not sure what id think!

I like rescue doggies too!
