A friend of someone I do some work for bought her daughter's a couple ponies last year. The children hardly ever rode the ponies so she has asked me to school them on a bit and then sell them on her behalf.

One of the ponies is a darling old conny mare, who once I sought out the poor girl's foot abcess (funny how they get those when you leave a set of shoes on for 3 months and one falls off and the toe clip penetrates the sole and yet you do sod all about it and watch the poor thing hop round on three legs ) I think will be very easy to sell. She's everybody's dream pony, just an utter star in everyway. The other is a little 11.2hh welsh mare who has a couple issues, one of which being her attitude. She likes to run off when small people are leading her, kicking out as she goes past and when she doesn't want to do something when ridden she rears up - the lady has told me on more than one occasion her youngest came off the back off the pony whilst she did this.

I have been riding this one for about 3 weeks now, she tried it on with me once on the road when a lorry came past and once when she didn't want to walk through a stream. I gave her a bop between the ears, a good growl and a firm kick and on she went. Since those two occasions (probabaly about 2 weeks ago now) she has been as good as gold so clearly she had learned it as an evasion tactic.

She has obviously been well schooled at some point as a lead rein pony, works well in walk and trot, canter isn't brilliant but she canters when asked and she loves to jump; fillers, logs, off banks in to water ect.

Moving on, the owner arranged an advert for her and the following day I started getting lots of phonecalls from people wanting a pony for their novice children. Confused, I found the advert and couldn't believe my eyes. The pony was advertised as a 'mother's dream, lead rein, first ridden'!:mad: The advert went on to say how fantastic the pony was, great with novices ect!

I spoke to the owner last night, persuaded her to drop the price right down and have rewritten the advert myself explaining the sort of pony she is. I just cant believe that someone could lie that badly in an advert. Its bad enough when people lie about horses for adults, but for a kid's pony!!:mad:

When I said to the lady that I didn't think she was a first ridden and that she needs an experienced rider her first suggestion was 'oh lets take her down the sales'. Poor pony deserves better than that, she would be passed round from pillar to post and no doubt some other less than honest person would get hold of her and sell her on as a first ridden as when in regular work shes actually pretty well behaved.

So to the final part of my post...I suspect, seeing as the owner is willing to take her down to the sales (where she will get peanuts for her) that I could persuade her to give her away to someone who can give the little poppet a good home. Does anyone here need a companion? I know there are so many out there looking for homes and she is less than ideal but you guys on HHO are usually so good at this sort of thing. I won't see her passed on to some poor unsuspecting novice family, and if worst came to worst I would drive her to the kennels myself. Just wish I had my own land, i've got a real soft spot for the little menace!

Im afraid I dont have space for her but I have to say I LOVE that photo of you on her!! What a tiny tank!!

Maybe someone knows of a good pony club type home. She looks like she could do bending races etc no problem and it would give her a job to do, which it sounds like she needs!

She went to a pc games rally a couple days ago and loved it. As I said with the right person she would be so much fun, if you know how to sit a rear they arn't scary or unsafe it's just a lot of kids small enough to ride her just don't have the experience/nerves.

She's just so much fun!

How about an advert on the PC website for her? Or would she make a good games pony?

ETA. Just seen your post above. You need the right kind of people to know that she's for sale, she is fantastic, but as you said not for a novice/nervous or small child.

If the owner isn't too concerned about price then I would continue to advertise honestly with a low price and carefully vet anyone who gets in contact. There are plenty of good child riders out there that don't have the funds for the stereotypical pc pony but would jump at the chance for a talented and fun little pony like her despite her quirks!
Definately contact your local pc too. Fingers crossed you find her a home, she's lucky to have you looking out for her :)

Have tried local pc, couldn't even find a rider for my 13.2hh jumping pony let alone someone who wants an 11hh that likes to wave to lorries...

Just don't know how long the owner is going to be willing to pay for me to have her if it's going to leave her out of pocket, even after (if) I sell the pony.

If she is good lead rein, cant you advertise her as that. Lead reins are quite sought after obviously there value is less than a lead rein/ first ridden. Then when you have viewings say that competetant small teenagers could possibly school her on too. Thats what i bought mine as a complete lead rein and used to let teenagers ride her. By the time my daughter was off the lead she could ride her as the older kids had done so much with her. Also if kiddies are that small they have an adult to to help with grooming and that.

Advertise her on MGA website. We have a 12hh welsh that is a right monkey, loves games and jumping but not a first pony. We paid quite a lot for her as my daughters games pony. she rears on the start line but then most games ponies do they cant wait to get started. my daughter qualified for zone games with her this year so stick with it . Do you know the local pc people ? We are in kent so could ask around here

A completely honest advert maybe with a link to this thread - or do a little blog with her. Or I always wonder why people don't do longer videos. Video her being groomed, tacked up, the good things she does, he naughty things she does - talk about her while you are being videoed and what you hope for her like you have here. Any camera and most phones have a good video function these days and stick it on YouTube with a link to it in the ad. I'm sure someone here will help if it's not something you've done before. :)

I'm sure the right home will snap her up.

Looks and sounds perfect for a games pony, we had a larger version of that on our team and we were always looking for more, and preferably smaller versions of him! Try contacting your local games teams speedy little things would be favoured by them. (We ran against a team entirely made up of shetlands at nationals, they were incredible...)

Thanks everyone, i'll put an advert up on MGA when I get a spare moment. She's not massively experienced though (never competed) which I think will go against her.

Video sounds like a great idea however I would have to find someone to be camera man as i'm on my own most of the time.

If worst came to worst FfionWinnie I would drive her up to you...i've always wanted to visit Scotland! Though in the mean time I will try and find her somewhere a little closer to home. Thank you so much for your offer though!

If she is going to get put in a tin we will take her, especially if you want a holiday in Scotland!! Hope you get somewhere closer but I am serious if it comes down to the wire for her.
