A right old moan..

I shouldn't moan really but i'm so fed up at my yard. I've spent over 5 hours this weekend poo picking the field my horse is in because 2 of the other horse owners can't be bothered. Whilst i was out there i saw one of the girls come to get her horse so i said "hope you're going to do some poo-picking coz this field is full of *****" (i spend about 2/3 hours per week on this particular activity but it isn't enough when there's 4 horses out there and only me and occassionally one other making the effort) and her reply was "my daughter starts school soon and i will have more time to help" when is that exactly? September!!

FFS the horses will be knee deep in ***** by then! How is it that a single mum on benefits can afford a horse?? The horse is an ex-racer that was given to her, about 10years old, finely built. New owner is built like a tank and is, in my opinion too heavy for such a fine animal. She bought a £10 saddle off Ebay rode the poor animal in it and has caused the horse to have a sore back so much so that it is now impossible to ride. Anyway turns out she can't afford to get it shod and is now looking to put it on loan - she has had the horse approx 2 months.

The other owner hasn't been seen for about 5 weeks, her mare is chronically lame and the gelding in my field hasn't had shoes or his feet seen by a farrier since Christmas - owner lives about 25miles away, hasn't picked up her livery bill and hasn't handled the gelding since i can't remember when. His feet are looking pretty bad now and its a real shame coz he's a nice looking animal, although owner says shes scared of him!

Do you think i can ask my YO to move the two horses whose owners don't poo-pick into another paddock? Should i tell YO about gelding's poor hoof condition or assume they know already? Don't want to cause any trouble because the yard is lovely and most of the people are nice but am feeling miffed that no one else is helping to maintain our paddock and that one of the horses is being neglected.

Have a cup of tea and a disgestive for getting this far. Your comments, as always are appreciated

I would say let your YO know and see what she says I would hate to have to do all that when it's not just my horses in there

I have three but I have a field 1 mile away from my house and poo picking for them is bad enough and one is a shetland! I would hate to have to do it for 4 horse when 3 are not mine!!

I feel sorry for the other horses how can someone not see there horse for 5 weeks whilst cronically lame ??

The girl with the badly lame mare hasn't had a vet out, hasn't brought her in for box rest, she doesn't even know why shes lame, could be anything and the poor old mare is 21yrs old. I don't think they've paid their livery for a while, which is why we haven't seen them around for so long - they are also on benefits!!

She did have a sharer but the sharer is the girl who took delivery of the other ex-racer!

Over winter the owner of the mare & gelding kept running out of hay & straw and she never had any feed so she told her sharer (now her ex sharer) to help herself to the other liveries feed/hay/straw - cheeky mare

Anyway rant over, no really i mean it, rant over.

I would def tell YO and let them take it from there. It makes sense for the other two horses to be moved if you are doing all the poo picking, I wouldn't be very happy poor picking for horses that weren't even mine!Aghhhh!! As for being on benefits, I'm a single mum with 2 children, and I have 3 horses. I do receive some benefits but work part time, and do without alot to have my horses. Now, I know, without a doubt, if I had to have them on livery, I wouldn't have them, as I couldnt possibly afford them. I am blessed to be renting a fab 4 bed house, on 5 acres, with stables and kennels. All for €150 per week. Thats seriously cheap for what I have, but is alot to come up with every week. Saying that, to have 3 horses on livery would cost twice that, and I'd be homeless!!

Well I don't know why you put up with it so long, but first of all I would ask is it a stipulation that the field has to be poo picked? because if it isn't then thats not the other owners responsibility.
If it is a stipulation, then yes you should report them to the yard owner.

Could you move your horse into another field to share with other more responsible people?


Is the yard owner aware of situation of the other two horses? Being left? and having lameness issues.

If the yard owner already knows the situation, or can see this is happenning then I wouldn't really expect alot to change, and would move my horse, or put up with it and make it the best I can. People like that tend to move on after a few months anyway. So things may pan out better soon.
