Hey, well at home my horse is (most of the time) infront of my leg but usually doesnt rush off. At shows the adrenalin and nerves seem to get to her a bit and she rushes about quite a bit. I use a pelham and try half halting and it doesnt seem to work. When she only rushes a little the judges love it (doesnt look like shes rushing but looks a bit of a show off) But at my 1st show this season the other week she was really bad for it and i have the cob class at UK showing on sat and im worried we are going to be rushing around like a mad thing! her canter is probably worse than her trot.
I need some tips that i can use to...
1) Calm my nerves. (i never suffered from them last year but this year im terrible)
2) slow my horse in the ring and achieve a nice rounded outline whilst not powering round like mad.
At home when in the ménage i dont have problems but at shows (on surface and on grass) she rushes off all the time and when i ask for canter she just tries to zoom! Iv tried using a combination of leg and half halts to collect her but it doesnt work!
last year she was nice and forwards but the show i went to the other week was a little out of control.
If anybody has anything that will help either in the warm up or in the ring it would be much appreciated.
thanks.
