I’m pretty late to the HHO party so I would like to tell you a bit about Flo.
my grandparents gave me, my siblings and cousins £1000 each. Over 14 years ago, about a week before my little brother was born instead of £1000 my granny bought me a 12yr old 16.1 ex racehorse. She had raced for 4 years and had a lot of homes before she made her way up to orkney.
she was a bog standard bay thoroughbred with long legs and neck and high withers but I felt so fancy riding her as if she was a £10,000 show horse. But my goodness a show horse wouldn’t have covered ground like her. She was so fast it felt like flying.
I decided to retire her and I just loved having my 2 old girls and just looking after them. It was never about the riding for me and I felt so special I owned these 2 very unique horses. (She was a racehorse did you know! I own an ex racehorse)
I knew this was my last summer with Flo. At 26 her arthritis was getting worse but I hoped to enjoy a few more months with her. Well the angels decided it was their turn with her and last night she galloped over the rainbow. I hope she has met my beloved granny up there, who gave me so much and started my love of horses.
I think it’s safe to say my £1000 was best used. I can’t imagine anyone got as much fun, joy, experience or love from theirs as I’ve gotten from mine. I’m so blessed to have been part of this special girls life. Fly high Grumps.
