Yesterday (21/10/2011) we had our Shire Bruno pts in the field.
After his horrible accident in December last year ( was rescued by the fire brigade from a freezing stream) he had found it sometimes difficult to get up after rolling.
In the last week he went down twice and couldnt get up for a while.
Yesterday he fell into a bush and down a slight slope, someone called the fire brigade, and he was pulled out onto flat ground, but couldnt get up.
Considering his age (25 ish) and his history, and the fact that a bad winter is on the way, we decided along with the vet, that best for our old mate was to put him to sleep.
RIP Bruno, gone, but never forgotten!
(sorry pic is huge)
